Adrian Dunaway of Barbourville, Kentucky, passed away on Tuesday, February 9, 2016, surrounded by his family and loved ones. Mr. Dunaway was born and raised in Bath County, Kentucky, the fourth of five children born to Omer and Lillian Manley Dunaway.

He served in the United States Marine Corps where he was awarded expert marksmanship medals, graduated from Union College and married Nancy Milton Carter Lay, daughter of the late Jesse D. and Nancy Carter Lay. Mr. Dunaway was a long-time employee of the Knox County Board of Education, retiring as Assistant Superintendent in 1995 to fish full-time, spending a great deal of time in Santee Cooper, South Carolina, with many wonderful friends and family members.
An avid fisherman, hunter and supporter of the US Armed Forces, known to cuss, drink and smoke on occasion, Mr. Dunaway was well-tolerated and loved by his family and friends and will be very missed.

Mr. Dunaway was preceded in death by his parents, his sister Dorothy Arnold, Dorothy's husband Raymond Arnold and his sister in law Mae Dunaway wife of brother John Dunaway.

He is survived by his amazing wife, Nancy Milton Dunaway, son Dr. Robert Adrian Dunaway, daughter Nancy Alice Dunaway, daughter in law Susan Clouse Dunaway, sister in law Mary Alice Lay, granddaughter Caitlin Mills and Caitlin's husband Dillon Mills, their daughters Claire and Charli Beth, namesake grandson William Adrian Robert Dunaway, brothers John Dunaway, Coyt Dunaway, sister Betty Wills and Betty's husband Dr. Aubrey Wills; Many nieces and nephews along with his favorite dog ever, Cosmo.

Memorial services will be conducted at the First United Methodist Church in Barbourville, Saturday, February 13, 2016 at 4:00pm with Rev. Charles Douglas and Rev. Dave Turner officiating. Friends will be received at the church, Saturday at 2:00pm until the funeral hour at 4:00pm. In lieu of flowers, the Dunaway family suggests contributions be made to the Knox-Whitley Animal Shelter, 66 Busy Lane, Corbin, Kentucky, 40701, (606) 526-6925, KWAS.org.
