Alvin Frank Gambrel age 89, of Barbourville, was born on August 5, 1928 in Knox County, Kentucky. He was a son of the late Coleman Gambrel and Mary Belle Smith Gambrel. Alvin died Thursday, December 7, 2017 at the Baptist Health in Corbin. Alvin was a member of the Poplar Grove Baptist Church and was a retired Mechanic.On January 3, 1948, he united in marriage to Cynthia Rolllyson and to this union five children were born. Along with his parents, and wife,Cynthia, Alvin was preceded in death by a grandson, Michael McDonald, sisters, Allie Mae Smith and Odie Kirby and a brother, Johnny Gambrel.
Alvin is survived by his daughters; Shirley McDonald and husband, Glenn of Barbourville; Wilma Cameron and husband, James S. Cameron of Greensboro, Georgia; his sons; John Clifford Gambrel and wife, Susie of Lexington, Kentucky; Larry Gambrel and wife, Kathy of Barbourville and Alvin Gambrel and Fiance',Tammy Smallwood of Bimble; his dear grandchildren; Brandi Mihaly and husband, Greg of Gulf Breeze, Florida, James Cameron Jr. and wife, Monica of Columbus, Georgia; Kevin McDonald and wife, Beckie of Knoxville, Tennessee; Richie Gambrel of Lexington, Kentucky; Brian Slusher and wife, Selina of Atlanta, Georgia; Kimberly Carter and husband, Jeff of Corbin; John Ross Gambrel and wife, Shira of Lexington, Kentucky; Christopher Gambrel of Barbourville; Lori Gambrel of Barbourville; Meagan Gambrel of Louisville, Kentucky; Alvin James Gambrel of Barbourville and thirteen great grandchildren.
Funeral Services for Alvin Frank Gambrel will be conducted in the Hopper Funeral Home Chapel, Sunday, December 10, 2017 at 2:00 pm with Rev. Bobby Joe Eaton and Rev. James McDonald officiating. Burial will follow in the Hammons Cemetery at Flat Lick, with Grandsons and Sons-in-law, Kevin McDonald, Alvin James Gambrel, Christopher Gambrel, Glenn McDonald, Stanley Cameron, Brian Slusher, Nate Smith and Zack Carter serving as pallbearers. Friends will be received at the Hopper Funeral Home Saturday, 6:00 to 9:00 pm and after 10:00 am Sunday until the funeral hour at 2:00 pm. Hopper Funeral Home will be in charge of all arrangements.
