Obituary

Bertha Scott Hammons Pittman age 99, of Batavia, Ohio and formerly of Knox County, died Sunday, November 10, 2013 in Batavia. She was a daughter of the late Green Scott and Mary Burgan Scott. Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by husbands, Arthur Hammons and Dutch Pittman; her five sisters; Lora Ellen, Bertie May, Irene, Geraldine and Edith; her six brothers; James, Henry, G.C., Orell, Wayne and Randall; and a great grandchild, Jordan Bessey.

Bertha was the beloved Mother of Betty Stanley and Mary Katherine Crozier; she was the Grandmother of Al Stanley, Kristen Lynch, Kara Hrkach, Jeff Crozier, Jennifer Walden; Great Grandmother of Ray Lynch, Shelby Lynch, Morgan Stanley, Heather Haas, Natalie Foster, Cameron Hrkach, Rachel Crozier, Andrew Bessey, Forrest Wills, Savannah Wills, Seth Walden and Shay Walden;and was the sister of Anna Juday.

Bertha was a Professional Educator.
She was a graduate of Union College, having received a Bachelor Degree in Education; and Master's Degree in Education Administration at the University of Kentucky. She did her Post Graduate work at the University of Cincinnati. She taught 11 years in Knox County, supervised student teachers for Union College in the Knox County Schools and Barbourville City School, and served as President of the Knox County Teachers Association. She was a teacher for 5 years at the Clermont Northeastern School District in Batavia, Ohio and was a Elementary School Principal for 12 years. After retirement, she served as President of Clermont County Ohio Retired Teacher's Association. Her retirement was rich in travel to major interests in the US and Europe and she and husband Dutch spent 12 years as snow birds in Fort Meyers, Florida.
She belonged to a square dance club that performed in the Cincinnati area and was a active member at her Senior Center. Bertha was a faithful Christian all of her life. She loved reading her Bible, loved her church and was faithful in attendance wherever she resided. She taught Sunday School for 12 years at New Bethel Baptist Church before moving to Ohio where she started a Young Married's Sunday School Class at the Owensville Methodist Church. Bertha has now returned to New Bethel Church, her beloved childhood church that was a great influence in molding and directing her life. Her earthly body will be laid to rest here. Her spirit is forever with God in his loving care.

Funeral Services for Bertha Scott Hammons Pittman will be held in the Hopper Funeral Home Chapel, Saturday, November 16, 2013 at 2:00 pm with Dr. Dennis Hammons officiating. Burial will follow in the New Bethel Cemetery at Crane Nest with Al Stanley,Jeff Crozier,Jim Lynch, Mike Walden, Morgan Stanley, Ray Lynch, Shelby Lynch and Forrest Wills serving as pallbearers. Friends will be received at the Hopper Funeral Home, Saturday, November 16, 2013 after 12:30 pm until the funeral hour at 2:00 pm. Hopper Funeral Home is in charge of all arrangements.
