Bessie West Prichard age 100, of Columbus, Ohio and formerly of
Barbourville, was born on December 26, 1913 at Swan Pond, in Knox
County, Kentucky. She was the daughter and last child of the
late C.A. West and Lillie Lickliter West Family. Bessie died Sunday,
July 6, 2014 in the Arlington Court Nursing Home in Columbus, Ohio.
As a young girl, Bessie was baptized in the Cumberland River and became a member and still remains a member of the Swan Pond Baptist
Church. She attended Swan Pond School and Barbourville High School,
where she was a member of the Barbourville High School Girls
Basketball Team. She was a standing guard and played in a tournament
at Union College. Bessie loved her family. She cared for two of her
Sisters, Dora Hampton and Ada Prichard until their deaths. She was
the best cook ever. She was known as the "Queen" of her homemade
Apple Butter. On December 24, 1936, she united in marriage to
Omer F. Prichard and to this union two dear daughters were born.
Along with her husband, Omer, she was preceded in death by her
sisters and brothers,Nola, Joe, Bon, Jenny, Brock, Bert, Ada, Effie, Sally, Archie and Dora and two nieces raised as sisters; Thelma and Imogene
Surviving Bessie; her Daughters; Florence Ann Blackwood and husband,
John; Elaine Rotondo and husband, Dennis; Grandchildren; John Blackwood and wife, Trinka Dykes Blackwood; Steven Blackwood; Dora
Ann Blackwood; Denise Rotondo Kincaid and husband, Joel; Cherie Strand and husband,Iver; Jodi Rotondo Shupe and husband, Rich; Douglas Rotondo and dear friend,Christine Zember Great Grandchildren; Madelanie (Maddie) Blackwood; Alexandra (Alex) Rotondo; Liam Rotondo Kincaid; Trevor Rotondo Kincaid; Mia Strand, Carley Strand, Sally Rotondo Shupe; Claire Rotondo Shupe; raised, Special and dear Friend, Mary Rae Hahurst,who helped over see her care for two years and many beloved Nieces and Nephews to mourn her passing.
There will be graveside services at the Barbourville Cemetery
Tuesday, July 8, 2014 at 1:30 pm with Rev. Denvil Taylor and Dennis
Rotondo officiating. Friends will be received at the Hopper Funeral Home, Tuesday after 1:00 pm and after 1:15 pm at the Barbourville
Cemetery. Hopper Funeral Home is in charge of all arrangements.
