Barbourville, Ky. – Betty Baker , 98, of Flat Lick passed away December 31, 2022. Betty was born and raised in Flat Lick to a loving mother and father, John and Minnie Warren Carnes. Her childhood home was filled with love, laughter and many siblings. Good times were plenty.

Betty was of the Baptist Faith. She was a woman who possessed many gifts. Betty was a talented musician who loved all types of music. Betty cherished the time she spent playing the piano, in devotion to her musical talent. Betty had a green thumb. Every year she raised a bountiful vegetable gardens from which she used her own produce to provide many delicious meals and food offerings to her family and loved ones. Her family fondly spoke about enjoying her fried chicken and biscuits and her amazing apple stack cake. Betty also raised beautiful flowers. Her roses were spectacular.  Betty was creative in the craft and sewing arenas. She seemed to have success with whatever hobby she chose to pursue. Perhaps Betty's greatest gift however was her loving heart. She loved her family and her friends and always had something good to say about people, whether or not she knew them personally.

Left behind to mourn Betty is her beloved son, Dennis R. Baker (Mary Ann); sister, Irene Carnes Collins (Gary); grandchildren: Garrett Baker (Vivian), Jennifer McLean (Paul), and Brian Baker; great-grandchildren: Celina Baker and Alex Baker.

Preceding Betty in death was her husband, Paul R. Baker; son Ronnie Paul Baker and his wife, Marsha; mother and father: Minnie Warren Carnes and John Carnes; sister, Hazel Myklak; brothers: Chester Carnes, Herald Carnes, Jim Carnes, and Thomas Ray Carnes; and dear sister-in-law, Melissa Carnes.

The Baker family will receive family and friends at Hopper Funeral Home on Saturday, January 7, 2023 from 11:30 AM until the funeral hour of 12:30 PM. Barry Carnes will officiate. Interment will follow the funeral service, at the Hammons Cemetery, Flat Lick. The Baker Family has chosen as casket bearers: Alex Baker, Garrett Baker, Barry Carnes, Gary Collins, John Collins, and Paul McLean.

The Hopper family, Victoria Hopper and Sally Hopper, along with the staff of Hopper Funeral Home, express sincere condolences to the family and friends of Betty Baker .
