Betty Jane Mills Mays, 79, of Barbourville, Kentucky passed away Friday, July 26, 2019 at Appalachian Regional Hospital in Hazard, Kentucky. Betty was born September 13, 1939 in Dewitt, Kentucky to the late Arthur and Reathie Burnett Mills. Betty was a member of Roadside Baptist Church and an avid follower of Kentucky Wildcat Basketball. Betty was preceded in death by her loving parents, her sister Ann Ross and her brother Reed Mills, as well as her mother-and-father-in-law, Ida B. and Willie T. Mays.
Betty was united in marriage to Jimmy Mays on October 1, 1955. To this union eight children were born. Betty is survived by her husband, Jimmy, and all eight children, Jimmy Jr. and wife Madeline of Bimble, Kentucky, Sandra Nolan and husband Earl of Gray, Kentcuky, Sharon Helton and husband George Alan of Barbourville, Kentucky, Charlotte Bingham of Barbourville, Kentucky, Randy Mays of Barbourville, Kentucky, Gary Mays and wife Beulah of Corbin, Tammy Peters and husband Stewart of Barbourville, Kentucky and Terry Mays and wife Mendy of Barbourville, Kentucky.
Betty was also survived by her eleven grandchildren: Clint Mays, Ryan Mays, Kevin Mays, Madison Mays, Morgan Mays, Taylor Mays, Shane Bingham, Micah Bingham, Misty Helton Ross, George Michael Helton, and Ashley Herald. Betty also leaves behind six great-grandchildren: Emilee Reese Bingham, Haiden Bingham, Emily Nicole Ruth Bingham, Camden Helton, Gabe Ross, and Vance Ross.
Betty was loved and will be greatly missed by many extended family members and friends. Visitation for Betty will be held at Hopper Funeral Home on Tuesday, July 30, 2019 from 11:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. with the funeral at 2:00 p.m. Family is invited to attend the visitation at 10:00 a.m. The funeral will be officiated by her grandson Shane Bingham and Reverend Ernie Wyatt. Betty will be laid to rest beside her parents at Henry Matt Mills Cemetery following the funeral.
