Obituary

Charlie Broughton, 90, of Artemus, died Monday, May 19, 2014 at the Heritage in Corbin. Charlie was born in Knox County on July 4, 1923 to the late John Henry and Ellen (Doan) Broughton. He was a retired coal miner and WWII Veteran who enjoyed hunting, fishing, and four wheeling.

Also preceding him in death was his wife, Hazel Smith Broughton, three infant children, a brother Enos Broughton, three sisters, Myrtle McVey, Ethel Smith, Ruth Bays a grandson, Chris Broughton, and a son-in-law, Lee Gilbert Murphy.

Surviving Mr. Broughton, one brother, John Will Broughton, a sister, Hazel Broughton Sowders, both of Artemus,three sons, Herman Broughton and wife Pam of Barbourville, Harold Broughton and wife Susan of Himyar, Darris Broughton and wife Lisa of Corbin, three daughters, Alene Matlock and husband Randall of Artemus, Pat Murphy of Artemus,Ellen Powers and husband Jimmy of Bryant's Store, grandchildren, Pam Hembree and husband Brian of Barbourville, Angela Murphy of Lexington, Tonya Halcomb and husband Ralph of Corbin, Felicia West of Artemus, Bethany Broughton of Himyar, Paxton and Trey Broughton of Corbin, great-grandchildren, Raley Halcomb, Luca and Sophie, and step-great grandchildren, Brandi and Dakota Hembree.

Funeral services for Charlie Broughton will be 1:00 pm Thursday, May 22, 2014 in the Hopper Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Tim Bargo and Ralph Halcomb officiating.
Burial will follow in Barbourville Cemetery.

Visitation for Mr. Broughton will be after 10:00 am on Thursday at the funeral home, and until the funeral hour.

Pallbearers will be John Bays, Tim and Johnny Broughton, Willie Shelton, Keith Ramsey and Mike Ross, and honorary pallbearers will be all of Charlie's hunting, trading, and fishing friends.

The Broughton family wishes to express their gratitude for the wonderful care given to Charlie and the family during his time at the Heritage.
