Obituary

Delphus Lay, age 75, of Little Brush Creek, Artemus, died Thursday, September 22, 2016 in the Greg & Noreen Wells Hospice Care Center in Hazard, Kentucky. He was a son of the late Johnny and Mary Nan Davis Lay, born to them on December 7, 1940 at Artemus.

Delphus was a retired Maintenance Worker at Tru-Seal with over 31 years of service; a Member of the Liberty Missionary Baptist Church; a veteran of Kentucky Army National Guard Barbourville Unit; and was a well known Knox County Fox Hunter.

On December 31, 1965, he united in marriage to Donna Valentine, and to this union a son: Chris was born.

Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother: J. D. Lay; his two sisters: Marjorine Lay and Lorene Lay Hembree; and by his sister in law: Judy C. Wilson Lay.

Delphus is survived by his loving family: His son: Chris D. Lay and wife, Angie; and his two grandsons: Evan Lay and Adam Lay all of Artemus.
His brother: Kenneth Lay of Barbourville.
His sister: Irene Payne and husband, Clifford of Somerset, Kentucky.
His brother in law: Arthur Hembree of Harrodsburg, Kentucky.
His good friend: Betty Jordan of Gray.
His nieces and nephews: Gregory Allen Lay and wife, Paige; Teresa Lynn Lay Evans and husband, Brian; Sandra Dobler; Randall Payne; Bryan Payne; Trina Hembree and Kirk Hembree; and several great nieces and nephews; a friend: Richard Carroll of Venice, Florida; and a very special Fox Hunter buddy: Jay Hampton; and all of his Fox Hunting Friends; and many other dear relatives, and dear friends to mourn his passing.

Funeral Services for Delphus Lay will be 2:00 P.M. Monday, September 26, 2016 in the Hopper Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Donnie Mills officiating.
Burial will follow in the Lay Cemetery at Little Brush Creek.

Those serving as Pallbearers will be: Greg Lay, Randy Payne, Terry Messer, Jay Hampton, Jeff Creighton and Jimmy Wynn.

Those serving as Honorary Pallbearers will be: The Knox County Health Department, Co-Workers at Tru-Seal, His Fox Hunting Buddies, and Hospice of the Blue Grass.

The Lay Family will receive friends at the Hopper Funeral Home after 5:00 P.M. on Sunday, and after 11:00 A.M. on Monday and until the hour of service.

Hopper Funeral Home will be in charge of arrangements.
