Rev. Ellis Smith, Jr., son of Maxine and Ellis Reese Smith, husband of Wilma Joyce, and father of Greg Smith and Dr. Jeff Smith, departed this life on Sunday morning March 24, 2013.

Ellis was former Co-Owner of S & B Market at Artemus, KY; a butcher for Mitchell's Market, A & P Supermarket, and Foodland.
He served in the United States Army from 1963-1966 and was stationed in Germany, a Baptist Minister pastoring Indian Creek Baptist Church and Sinking Valley Baptist Church in Knox County, and Northside Baptist Missionary a mission of First Baptist Church of Barbourville, and Second Blackwater Baptist Church in Jackson County.
After retiring Rev. Smith volunteered in the Extension Department of Barbourville First Baptist Church ministering to the sick at their homes and nursing homes.
Rev. Smith taught at Boone Elementary in Knox County for 23 years.

Funeral Services for Rev. Ellis Smith, Jr. will be conducted on Saturday, March 30, 2013 at 11:00 A.M. at the First Baptist Church of Barbourville, with Rev. Josh Smith, Dr. David Beck, and Rev. Shane W. Nickell officiating.
Burial will follow in the Barbourville Cemetery.
Those serving as Pallbearers will be Deacons of the First Baptist Church.
Those serving as Honorary Pallbearers will be Family and Friends.

Memorial Donations may go to the First Baptist Church Extension Department in loving memory of Rev. Smith.

Hopper Funeral Home will be in charge of arrangements.

The Smith Family will receive friends at the Hopper Funeral Home from 6:00 until 9:00 P.M. on Friday, and on Saturday after 10:00 A.M. at the First Baptist
Church until the funeral hour.
