Ethel Marie Sowders Partin age 77, of Lexington, Kentucky and formerly of Artemus, Kentucky, died Wednesday, September 16, 2015 at
the Saint Joseph East Hospital in Lexington. Ethel was born on September 19, 1937 at Artemus. She was the daughter of the late Herman H. Sowders and Viola Hill Sowders. Ethel was a member of the Artemus Baptist Church and Eastern Star. She was a graduate of Knox Central High School and Union College. Ethel was a retired school teacher, having taught at Knox Central High School, Lynch Independent High School,Cumberland High School and Southeast Community College. She loved Crocheting, Cross-stitching, Needlepointing and Cake Decorating. On March 14, 1989, she united in marriage to John Wesley Partin. Along with her parents and husband, John, she was preceded in death by her brother, Harold E. Sowders.
Ethel is survived by her dear brother; Donald B. Sowders and wife, Ann of Lexington, sister-in-law, Louise Sowders of Lexington; nieces: Sandra Sowders of Lexington; Lynn (David)McGaughey of Lexington; Jody (Chuck) Caudill of Lexington; Sheila (Walter) Prewitt of High Bridge; great nieces and nephews; Donnie (Heather) McGaughey of Las Vegas, Nevada; Amanda (William)Neltner of Oklahoma; Chris McGaughey of Orlando, Florida; Nick Caudill of Lexington, Zachary Prewitt of High Bridge, Jordan Caudill of Lexington; Lindsey (Ben) Easley of South Carolina; Whitley (Cody) Beavers of Nicholasville; great great niece and nephew; Ashley Neltner and Levi Beavers.
Funeral Services for Ethel Marie Sowders Partin will be conducted
Monday, September 21, 2015 at 11:00 am in the Hopper Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Ralph Halcomb and Rev. Tom Patterson officiating. Burial will follow in the Barbourville Cemetery in Barbourville, Kentucky, with Donnie McGaughey, William Neltner, Chris McGaughey, Nick Caudill, Ben Easley, Zachary Prewitt, Jordan Caudill, Cody Beavers serving as pallbearers and Brent Sowders serving as a honorary pallbearer.
Friends will be received at the Hopper Funeral Home, Sunday 5:00 pm until 8:00 pm and after 10:00 am Monday until the funeral hour. Contributions may be made to the Artemus Baptist Church in memory of Ethel Marie Sowders Partin. Hopper Funeral Home is in charge of all arrangements.
