The Honorable Gary W. Brittain, age 67, of Corbin, Kentucky passed away at the University of Kentucky Chandler Medical Center on Friday February 3, 2017. Gary was the son of the late George Oscar and Geneva Brittain of Barbourville, Ky. Gary was born on October 7, 1949. Gary was a beloved husband, father and grandfather.
He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Debbie Brittain Hobbs. He is survived by his wife, Maureen Heustis Brittain, daughter, Dr. Susan Leigh Brittain, and Jason Seitz, her spouse, and their daughter, Savannah Leigh Seitz, and a son, Honorable John Gray Brittain, and his girlfriend, Rebecca Neifeld, sisters Marilynn Brittain, Renee Brittain Browning and spouse, Bill, and brother Jim Brittain and spouse, Renee, and a most special aunt Ada Clouse, as well as a host of nieces, nephews and many friends.
Gary served as an Assistant Commonwealth Attorney in Jefferson County before moving home to Barbourville in 1979. He served two terms as Knox County Attorney. He was a partner of the Law Office of Hammons and Brittain and was serving as an Assistant Whitley County Attorney at the time of his death. He was a longtime board member of KCEOC and served as Chairman of the Board.
Gary loved his family immensely and loved thoroughbred horse racing, biking and watching University of Kentucky basketball. Gary was a generous man to many and helped anyone he could.
Mass of Christian Burial will be at 12:00 noon Tuesday February 7, 2017 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church with Father Mike Weglicki and Deacon Kevin Meece officiating.A rosary service will be held at 8:30 Monday evening at Hopper Funeral Home. Burial will be at Noon Wednesday February 8,2017 at the Calvary Cemetery in Louisville, Ky. The family will receive friends at Hopper Funeral Home on Monday February 5, 2017 after 6:00 P.M. and at Sacred Heart Catholic Church after 11:00 A.M. Tuesday.
Serving as pallbearers will be James R. Aubrey, Jr., Jason Seitz, Jim Brittain, Tyler W. Brittain, Graham Heustis and Bennett Heustis. Honorary pallbearers will be Bill Browning, Daniel Reasor, Kyle Rogers, David Valentine, Cleveland Wilson, Dr. Raju Vora, Matthew Heustis, Clinton Hobbs, Pat Mitchell, Honorable Ryan Pogue, Nate Miller, Honorable Bob Hammons and Dr. Cristy Atienza.
A special thank you to the staff of Hammons and Brittain Law Office, staff of Dr. Cristy Atienza, Nurses and Doctors of the ICU at University of Kentucky Chandler Medical Center, the staff and board members of KCEOC, Dr. Sadhna Vora, the family of James R. Aubrey, Sr., the family of J. Keith Heustis, Sister Alice Marie, the Valentine and Reasor families.
