Obituary

George Howard age 92, of Woollum, was born on March 3,1920 in Harlan, Kentucky. He was a son of the late Fount Howard and Mary Teague Howard. George died Thursday, October 11, 2012 in the Knox County Hospital. He was a member of the Antioch United Baptist Church at Woollum and was a Coal Miner. George was a United States Army Veteran, having served during World War II. On July 19, 1946, he united in marriage to Georgia Corey and to this union two daughters and a son were born. Along with his parents, George was preceded in death by; a sister, Drucilla Brock; four brothers; Herbert, John S., Fount Jr., Andy, and Delbert Howard, Son-in-law, Vernon Trent; Sisters-in-law, Ollie Corey, Virginia Hubbard, Betty Corey, Glenda Cobb and Wilma Corey; and a brother-in-law; George Brock.

George is survived by his loving wife, Georgia Howard of Woollum; his daughters; Norma Trent of Greenroad and Debbie Mercer of Nicholasville, Kentucky; his son; Rolland Howard and wife, Teresa of Lancaster, Kentucky; his nine grandchildren and thirteen great grandchildren; his sister; Nora Dell Gibson and husband, Rev. Ed Wayne Gibson of Gray; Sisters-in-laws; Judy Cobb and husband, Rev. William "Mann" Cobb of Woollum; Martha Ann Heneisen and husband, John of Rome Georgia;Ethel Hoard of Michigan; Helen Howard of Florida and Bernice Howard of London; Brothers-in-law; Harold Hubbard of Williamsburg; Clyde Corey and W.C. Corey both of London; and Perry Cobb of Greenroad.

Funeral Services for George Thomas Howard will be conducted at the Antioch United Baptist Church at Woollum, Monday, October 15, 2012 at 1:00 pm, with Rev. William "Mann" Cobb, Rev. Shelby Money, Mike Corey and Dr. Thomas Ashburn officiating. Burial will follow in the Blevins Cemetery at Woollum with Eric Trent, E.J. Howard, James Brown, Bug Trent, Bradley Trent, Chase Trent, Jacob Warren, Curt Ingram, Gary Asher, Fount Brock, Brian Jones and David Gibson serving as pallbearers. Honorary Pallbearers will be all Staff at the Knox County EMS, Staff at the Knox County Hospital, Staff at the Med Surge, Staff at the Barbourville Family Health Center, Dr. Thomas Ashburn, Dr. Richard Carter, Dr. Kooney, Members of the Antioch United Baptist Church, Mike Corey, Charlie Green Dixon, Sheriff John Pickard, Calvin Manis and all friends and neighbors. The Howard Family will receive friends at the Hopper Funeral Home Sunday after 5:00 p.m. and Monday after 11:00 am at the Antioch United Baptist Church until the funeral hour. The Howard Family have requested contributions may be made to the Blevins Cemetery Fund in loving Memory of George Thomas Howard. Hopper Funeral Home will be in charge of all arrangements.
