Georgia Corey Howard, age 88, of Woollum , Kentucky, passed away peacefully Thursday, June 12, 2014 at the home of her daughter, Norma Trent. She was the daughter of the lat Floyd Corey and Martha Murphy Corey Cobb. She was born on November 1, 1925 at Woollum, Kentucky.
Mrs. Howard was a retired postmistress of Woollum and ran a country grocery store for 38 years. She was a member of Antioch Baptist Church. She enjoyed canning, cooking and spending time with family and friends. Her door and table were always open to all in the community.
On July 19, 1946, she united in marriage with George Howard, and to this union, three children were born.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her stepdad, Lloyd Cobb, her husband of 66 years, George Howard, a sister, Virginia Hubbard and a son-in-law, Vernon Trent.
Survivors include one son, Rolland Howard and wife, Theresa, of Lancaster, Kentucky, two daughters, Norma Trent of Greenroad, Kentucky, and Debbie Howard of Nicholasville, Kentucky; a sister, Martha Heneisen and husband John, of Rome, Georgia; four brothers, W.C. Corey and Clyde "Pap" Corey, of London, Kentucky, William "Mann" Cobb and wife Judy, Perry Cobb of Woollum, Kentucky.
Mrs. Howard leaves nine grandchildren; Tonya Warren and husband Billy, of Lancaster, Kentucky. Eric Trent and wife Beth of Artemus, Kentucky. Dean Jones and husband Brian, of Gray, Kentucky, Lucinda Strong, Robbie Trent and Jack of Greenroad, Kentucky, Kristen Brown of Pikeville, Kentucky, James Brown and wife Jennifer, of Woodbine, Kentucky, Lindsey Mercer of Nicholasville, Kentucky. As well as many great grandchildren, friends and family.
Funeral Services for Georgia Howard will be conducted at Antioch Baptist Church on Sunday, June 15, 2014 at 2:00 P.M. with Rev. William "Mann" Cobb, Mike Corey and Dr. Thomas Ashburn officiating. Burial will follow in the Blevins Cemetery at Woollum. Those serving as Pallbearers will be: Curt Ingram, Bradley Trent, Chase Trent, Billy Warren, James Brown, Waylon Corey, Brian Jones, and Bug Trent. Those serving as Honorary Pallbearers will be: Mike Corey, Dr. Thomas Ashburn, Hospice of the Bluegrass, Knox County Health Department, Shana Hudson and Employees of Barbourville Family Health Center, Employees of Barbourville Nursing Home, Fount Brock, Eric Trent, John Pickard, Charlie Greene Dixon, Sherry Cox and Ms. Billie Swafford, and Charlene Ingram who was like a daughter to her.
The Howard family will receive friends at the Hopper Funeral Home after 6:00 P.M. on Saturday, and on Sunday at Antioch Baptist Church from 10:00 A.M. until the funeral hour.
Hopper Funeral Home will be in charge of all arrangements.
