Family and friends are invited to celebrate the life of Gerald L. Hyde. Gerald age 72, of Barbourville, was born on March 17, 1941 in Praco, Alabama. He was a son of the late Clarence E. Hyde and Edith Kerns Hyde. Gerald departed this life, Friday, October 4, 2013 at the UK Markey Cancer Center in Lexington, Kentucky. He was a member of the First Christian Church of Barbourville. Gerald worked at the Union National Bank for thirty eight years as Vice President and was a Branch Manager. He was a former member of the Kentucky National Guard, having served in the Barbourville Unit. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge #187 F&AM and was a member and volunteer fireman for the Barbourville Fire Department. Gerald was a Barbourville City Councilman and was a Indian Springs board member. He was also a member of the Traveling Golfers.
On February 10, 1963, he united in marriage to Janet Hawn and to this union a beloved son and daughter were born. Along with his parents, Gerald was preceded in death by a sister, Jackie Hyde Parks and his dear mother-in-law, Doris Hawn.
Gerald is survived by his wife, Janet Hawn Hyde of Barbourville; his children; Gerald Louis "Gerry" Hyde of Richmond, Kentucky; Sharon Ruth "Cher" Smith and husband, Jason of Barbourville; his grandchildren; Katherine, Genna, Alex and Trevor; sisters; Janice Hyde Barnes and husband, Edward of Cannon; Sally Hyde Hughes and husband, Richard of Corbin; brother; Clarence Edward "Eddie" Hyde Jr. and wife, Tina of Corbin; sister-in-law and brother-in-law; Sharon and Ken Boggs of Barbourville, and many other relatives and dear friends.
The Hyde Family would like to invite you to the Celebration of Life Service for Gerald L. Hyde, Monday, October 7, 2013 at 4:00 pm
in the Hopper Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Darrell Hathcock officiating. Burial will follow in the Barbourville Cemetery with, Jim Tye, Ken Jackson, Ernie Coscia, David Wayne Miller, Ken Boggs and Edward Hyde serving as pallbearers. Honorary Pallbearers will be: Members of the Barbourville City Council, Mayor Thompson, Barbourville Police and Barbourville Fire Departments, Indian Springs Golfers and Board Members. The Hyde Family have requested contributions may be made to the First Christian Church of Barbourville in loving memory of Gerald L. Hyde. The Hyde Family would like to invite everyone for refreshments in the Hopper Lounge from 12:00 noon till 3:30 pm, prior to the celebration service.
