Obituary

H. M. Callihan, Jr.,  age 75, of Flat Lick,  died Tuesday, October 2, 2018 at his home.  He was a son of the late Henry M. (Matt) Callihan, Sr. and Chelsa B. Yeager Callihan, born to them on September 13, 1943 in Knox County. H.M. retired with over 31 years as a Mine Inspector for the Mine Safety and Health Administration (MSHA);  a member of the First United Methodist Church of Barbourville; a member of the Mountain Masonic Lodge 187 F. & A. M. of Barbourville; and a member of the Oleika Shrine Temple; and served his Country in the Kentucky Army National Guard in Barbourville  On May 26, 1966, he united in marriage to Carolyn Elizabeth (Beth) Hauser. Along with his Parents, he was preceded in death by his brother Ronnie Dale Callihan, his twin grandchildren Matthew and Emily; and by two brothers-in-law: Kenneth Adams and Dr. Norman E. Dittrich.

He is survived by his loving family: his wife of over 52 years Carolyn Elizabeth "Beth" Hauser Callihan of Flat Lick.  His sons: H. M. "Matt" Callihan, III of Maryville, Tennessee;  Gus Patrick Callihan and fiance' Karen Davis of Flat Lick;  and Josh Lawson Callihan and wife, Mary Jane of Binble.
His nine loving grandchildren: Joshua Callihan, Samantha Callihan, Samara Callihan, Zach Callihan, Anna Beth Callihan, Emma Kate Callihan, Cody Watkins, Blake Maiden and Bailee Maiden.  His two sisters: Genetta Dittrich Pugh and husband, Bill of Knoxville, Tennessee and Wilma Adams of Bimble. His brother-in-law: Pat Hauser and wife, Connie of Barbourville, and his sister-in-law: Sally Kay Richards and husband, Pete of Indianapolis, Indiana; and a host of nieces and nephews, and other relatives and dear friends to mourn his passing.

Graveside Services for H. M.  Callihan, Jr. will be 1:00 pm Thursday, October 4, 2018 at the Callihan Family Cemetery at Bimble with Rev. Dennis Chesnut and Pastor Bill Hughes officiating.  The DAV Chapter 158 of Keavy will be in charge of Military Honors at the Cemetery. Those serving as Pallbearers will be: Kenny Adams, Mark Adams, Sean Callihan, Jeff Black, Mike Doolin, Dennis Jackson, and Steve Valentine. Those serving as Honorary Pallbearers will be: All his camping buddies, Dr. James West, The Barbourville ARH and Nursing Staff, and all his Card playing buddies.
The Callihan family will receive friends at the Hopper Funeral Home on Thursday from 11:00 am until 12:15 pm. There will be a Masonic Service at 12:30 pm Thursday at the funeral home. In lieu of Flowers,  Memorials may be made to the Knox-Whitley Humane Association, Inc. , 66 Busy Lane, Corbin, Kentucky 40701 in loving Memory of H. M. Callihan, Jr.  Hopper Funeral Home will be in charge of arrangements.
