Helen Marie Chesnut age 83, of Barbourville, was born on June 5, 1930 in Knox County, Kentucky. She was a daughter of the late John H. Corey and Maggie Black Corey. Mrs. Chesnut died Wednesday, March 26, 2014 in Barbourville. She was a member of the New Bethel Baptist Church. Mrs. Chesnut loved her church and will be best remembered as the Church Clerk. She was a retired School Teacher, having taught for the Knox County School System, Barbourville Independent School and Artemus Christian School. On December 25, 1948, she united in marriage to Ora A. Chesnut and to this union a beloved son, Donnie was born. Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Ora; her father-in-law and mother-in-law; Arthur and Belle Cottongim Chesnut; two sisters, a infant sister, Lorene Corey and Barbara Carty; her brothers, Samuel Corey, Charles Corey and John H. Corey Jr. her In-Laws; Harris Terrell, Oval and Marge Chesnut; Irene and Willie Cobb; Otis and Pauline Chesnut; Rex Carty and B.A. Parker; her Nieces and Nephews; Sheila Drake, Debra Sue Chesnut, Dale Chesnut, Artie Chesnut, David Corey and Ronnie Taylor.
Mrs. Chesnut is survived by her beloved son; Donnie R. Chesnut and wife, Judy of Trace Branch; her dear grandchildren; Gynger Adams and husband, Mark of Bimble; Angie Young and husband, Jamey of Franklin, Tennessee; Donald Corey Chesnut and wife, Meghann of Barbourville; great grandchildren; Chelsea Marie Adams, Will Adams, J.P. Young, Nathan Young and Laurel Katherine Chesnut; her brother; Curtis Corey and wife, Venna Lou of Barbourville; her sisters; Faye Terrell of Lexington, Kentucky; Mary Lois Asher and husband, Eugene of Nicholasville, Kentucky; sisters-in-laws; Lorene Parker, Mary Pope and husband, Emmitt, Shirley Wyatt and husband, Buck; Ruth Taylor and husband, Eugene; brothers-in-law; Charles Chesnut and wife, Barbara and Rev. Dennis Chesnut and wife, Joyce and many other beloved nieces, nephews other family members and friends.
Funeral Services for Helen Marie Chesnut will be conducted at the New Bethel Baptist Church, Saturday, March 29, 2014 at 2:00 pm with Rev. Dennis Chesnut and Rev. Lonnie Collett officiating. Burial will follow in the New Bethel Cemetery with Lowell Parker, Robert Cobb, I.V. Smith, Pat Chesnut, John Curtis Corey, Richard Parman, Kelly Chesnut and Eddie Wyatt serving as pallbearers. Honorary Pallbearers will be Mrs. Chesnut's church family at the New Bethel Baptist Church and her dear and loving caregivers. Friends will be received at the Hopper Funeral Home Friday after 6:00 pm and Saturday after 11:00 am at the New Bethel Baptist Church until the funeral hour at 2:00 pm.
Hopper Funeral Home will be in charge of all arrangements.
