Obituary

Helen Garland Smith, age 84, of Cannon, died Wednesday, November 1, 2017 in the Continue Care Hospital in Corbin. She was a daughter of the late William Nelson and Josephine Smith Garland, born to them on February 24, 1933 in Knox County.

Helen was a well known Knox County Housekeeper, and a Member of the Sinking Valley Baptist Church.

On August 15, 1953, she united in marriage to Oliver Paul Smith and to this union 8 children were born.

Along with her parents; she was preceded in death by her husband Oliver Paul Smith on March 14, 1986; her two sisters: Jewell McDonald and Pauline Lowe; and by her two brothers: Ben Garland and Parker Garland.

She is survived by her loving family: Her Children: William Fred Smith; Jim Smith and wife, Ethel; Oliver Dale Smith and wife, Cindy; Kathy Ann and Curt Hinkle; Terry Shawn Smith and wife, Jeanetta; Daniel Smith; Robert Lynn Smith and wife, Lisa; and Rodney Scott Smith and wife, Jennifer.

Her grandchildren: Noel Turner and wife, Kimber; Cheryl Alexander and husband, Brock; Crystal Patterson and husband, Adam; Marcia Mills and husband, Craig; Tiffany and Holly; Nathan, Lindsey and John Ray; Olivia D. Smith; Trevor and Faith; and her 8 great-grandchildren; and by her sister: Judy Acey; and many nieces and nephews, and other relatives, and dear friends to mourn her passing.

Funeral Services for Helen Garland Smith will be 3:00 P.M. Saturday, November 4, 2017 in the Hopper Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Jimmy Siler and Rev. Rick Partin officiating.
Burial will follow in the Garland-Jackson Cemetery at Cannon.

Those serving as Pallbearers will be: Wesley Roark, Jim Baker, Matthew Erb, Jamie Bays, Tim Jackson, Kyle Miller and Family and Friends.

The Smith Family would like to give "Special Thanks" to the Continue Care Hospital Staff.

The Smith family will receive friends after 6:00 P.M. on Friday at the Hopper Funeral Home, and after 9:00 A.M. on Saturday until the funeral hour of 3:00 P.M.

Hopper Funeral Home will be in charge of arrangements.
