Hershal L. Johnson age 69, of Gray, was born on October 26, 1943 in Knox County, Kentucky. He was a son of the late Roy Ledford Johnson and Marie Fry Johnson. Hershal died at his home, Sunday, August 25, 2013. Hershal attended the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah Witness in Barbourville and was a retired Railroad Conductor for the Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railroad Company. Hershal was a United States Army Veteran, having served during the Vietam War. He united in marriage to Maryann Pope. Along with his parents, Hershal was preceded in death by a brother, Lee Roy Johnson.

Hershal is survived by his dear and loving companion; Denise Smart of Calhoun, Georgia; sons; Jason (Jenny) Johnson of Desoto, Wisconsin; Jesse James (Magaly) Johnson of Aurora,Illinois; Joseph Justin (Joan) Johnson of Oakbrook, Illinois; daughters; Julie Jeanette (Joe) Johnson of Elmhurst, Illinois; Kathleena (Stephen) Lee of Calhoun, Georgia grandchildren; Naomi, Shanna, Tyler, Jordyn, Christyn, Bryan, Eric, Jessica, Jamie, Matthew, Emily and Jett; former wife, Maryann Pope Johnson of Villa Park, Illinois; sister; Karen (Kevin) Moses of Gray, Kentucky; brothers; Benny Johnson of Gray, Kentucky; Louie (Pattie) Johnson of Caledonia, Minnesota; Keith (Robyn) Johnson of Gray, Kentucky and many other relatives and dear friends.

Funeral Services for Hershal L. Johnson will be conducted at 1:00 pm, Friday, August 30, 2013 in the Hopper Funeral Home Chapel, with Richard Lynch officiating. Burial will follow in the Johnson Cemetery at Gray, with Kevin Moses, Daniel Johnson, Derek Johnson, Kiker Moses, Craig Graeler, Tim Rucker and Nicholas Johnson serving as pallbearers. Alicia Johnson will be serving as a honorary pallbearer. Friends will be received at the Hopper Funeral Home, Thursday, after 6:00 pm and Friday after 10:00 am until the funeral hour at 1:00 pm. Hopper Funeral Home will be in charge of all arrangements.
