Homer Ray Hammons, age 71, of Corbin, was born on August 26th, 1943 in Knox County, Kentucky. He was the son of the late Matt Hammons and Jean Hubbard Hammons. Homer passed away on Sunday December 7, 2014 at his home. Homer retired from the United States Army in 1982 after 23 years of service, including service during the Vietnam Era and working at the White House for two United States Presidents. Homer was previously married to Jeanette Bays for 23 years, and during their union had two children, Ray and Angela Hammons.Homer was united in marriage to Evelyn Mae Jackson on December 7th, 1991. Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by: sisters, Florence Owens and Joyce Hammons; brothers, S.J. Hammons, Aubrey Hammons, and Ralph Hammons; and stepdaughter, Kimberly Davis.

Homer is survived by his loving wife, Evelyn Hammons of Corbin; daughter, Angela Hammons of Louisville, KY; sons, H. Ray Hammons of Louisville, KY, and Shaun Davis, and wife Megan of Corbin, KY; granddaughters, Jennifer Nguyen, Paige Hammons, and Ashley Hammons; step-granddaughter, Fatemia Fuson and husband Andy from Siler, KY; great-grandson, Clay Fuson; and a very special grandson, Levi Lay. He is also survived by sisters, Vivian Borowski of Brighton, MI; Ailene Combs and husband Carl of Kaleva, MI; Gereldean Brewer, and husband Larry of Warren, MI; Jane Dunning of Warren, MI; Margaret Callebs, and husband Troy of Ferndale, MI; brothers, Don Hammons and wife Faye of Heidrick, KY; Dave Hammons, and wife Jan of Heidrick, KY; and a very special aunt, Esther Hammons of Heidrick, KY; sister-in-laws, Mary Hammons of Barbourville, KY; Eva Hodge of Corbin, KY; Charlene Moore of Independence, KY; Dean Ramsey and husband Keith of Artemus, KY. He leaves many nieces, nephews, friends, and extended family.Homer was a member of Lily Baptist Church in Lily, Kentucky

Funeral Services for Homer Ray Hammons will be conducted Tuesday, December 9th, 2014 at 2:00 pm in the Hopper Funeral Home Chapel in Barbourville, KY, with Donnie "Duke" Hammons and Brother Wilbur Evans officiating. Burial will follow at the Doolin Cemetery in Heidrick, KY, with Keith Ramsey, Bryan Everhart, Roy Finley, Jay Mayne, Phillip Prewitt, and Matt Hammons serving as pallbearers. Family and Friends will be received from 12:00 noon to 2:00 pm before the funeral services take place. Hopper Funeral Home is in charge of all arrangements.
