Obituary

Howard Elzo Hensley better known to all as "Pap" age 94, of Barbourville, was born in Harlan, Kentucky on April 18, 1919. He was a son of the late Dewey Hensley and Lillie Hall Hensley. Howard died at his home, Monday, May 20, 2013. He was a member of the Old Time Baptist Church, that he so fondly called the garden spot of the world. Howard was a retired construction worker, coal miner and a well known Knox County farmer. He will be best remembered by his loving kindness he gave to everyone and all of his animals he shared with all of our families in Knox County. On July 20, 1938, he united in marriage to Edna Marie Whitaker, who preceded him in death in the year of 1969. On August 22, 1988, he united in marriage to Evelyn Marlow. Two Sons, Michael D. Hensley and Richard Wayne Hensley; a Grandson, Freddie Howard Hensley; Sisters; Zenobia Rigacci, Viola Edwards, Opal Queener, Brothers; J.D. Hensley and Ford Hensley; Daughter-in-law; Barbara Hensley and Son-in-law; John H. Cordell also preceded him in death.

Surviving Mr. Hensley; his loving wife, Evelyn Hensley of Barbourville; his sons; Jack Hensley of Cincinnati, Ohio; Joe Hensley and wife, Doris of Barbourville; James Hensley and wife, Janet of Gray; and Benny Hensley and wife, Pat of Berea; daughters; Donna Jean Hibbard and husband, Claude of Florida; Lillie Hensley Cordell of Corbin; Shirley Cordell and husband, Walter of Gray; Carolyn Elam and husband, Chester of Barbourville; beloved daughter-in-law; Sandy Hensley of Gray; twenty-three grandchildren; forty-one great grandchildren and eight great great grandchildren.

Funeral Services for Howard Elzo "Pap" Hensley will be conducted, Friday, May 24th at 2:00 pm in the Hopper Funeral Home Chapel, with Rev. Shane Martin, Rev. Don Farmer and Nathan Jones officiating. Burial will follow in the Howard Hensley Cemetery with, Seth Bargo, Aaron Bargo, T.J.Jones, Nakoa Lawson, Caleb Mumford, Benny Hensley, Gary Hensley and Michael Joe Hensley serving as pallbearers. Honorary Pallbearers will be Howard's church family at the Old Time Baptist Church, Dr. James West, Dr. Raju Vora the Staff and Doctors at the Knox County Hospital and all Staff at the Home Health Services. Friends will be received at the Hopper Funeral Home, Thursday after 6:00 pm and Friday after 10:00 am until the funeral hour at 2:00 pm. Hopper Funeral Home will be in charge of all arrangements.
