James Powell Carnes age 72, of Huntington, Indiana and formerly of Flat Lick, was born on January 31, 1940 at Flat Lick. He was a son of the late John Carnes and Minnie Warren Carnes. Mr. Carnes died at his home, Monday, October 15, 2012. He worked for General Motors before retiring. He served in the National Guard. On February 4, 1983, he united in marriage to Joyce Minardo and to this union a son was born. Along with his parents, James was preceded in death by two brothers, Chester and Harold Carnes and a sister, Hazel Mylak.
James is survived by his wife, Joyce Carnes of Huntington, Indiana; his son; Jason Carnes of Roanoke, Indiana; his grandchildren; Julia Kennice Carnes, Emily Nicole Carnes and Aiden Michael James Murray; his sisters; Betty Baker of Flat Lick; Irene Collins of Indiana; his brothers; Thomas Ray Carnes of Flat Lick; Rodney Myklak of California and his mother-in-law; Dorthy Drattlo of Indianapolis, Indiana.
Funeral Services for James Powell Carnes will be conducted in the Hopper Funeral Home Chapel, Monday, October 22, 2012 at 1:00 pm. Burial will follow in the Epperson Cemetery at Flat Lick, with family and friends serving as pallbearers. Friends will be received at the Hopper Funeral Home Sunday Evening after 7:30 p.m. Friends will be received Monday after 10:00 am until the funeral hour at 1:00 pm. Hopper Funeral Home is in charge of all arrangements.
