James "Jimmie" Messer, Jr, 77, husband of Jerrie Burgin Messer, passed away November 24,2015 at his home. He died from complications of leukemia. Jimmy was the son of the late James C. and Ruth Jackson Messer.
A graveside service will be held at 1:00 pm, November 27, 2015 at the Mayhew Cemetery, Barbourville, Rev. Denvil Taylor officiating. Pallbearers will be, Mike, Caleb, Colin, Mark and Matthew Jozefowicz, and Brady Baker. In accordance with Jimmy's wishes, there will be no visitation. Memorials may be made to the charity of one's choice.
Jimmy was beloved by his daughter Dr. Vicki Jozefowicz and his son-in-law John Mark Jozefowicz. He had a special bond with his grandson and best buddy, James Matthew Jozefowicz. Jimmy was an avid outdoorsman. After retiring from mining, he enjoyed many happy days fishing and hunting with his brothers Robert and Howard. Through many acts of kindness, Jimmy made the lives of others brighter and will be remembered for his generosity and willingness to help in times of need.
Jimmy's much appreciated care team included Dr. Kelly Evans (Grace Community Health Center), Hospice of the Bluegrass, and Joyce Martin. Their care and compassion allowed him to remain in the comfort of his home. Jimmy's days were also made brighter by regular visits and support from family friends including Tommy & Elizabeth Peters, Will Ed & Debbie Partin, and Hubert Carnes.
