James Albert Messer, 72, of Acorn Fork at Flat Lick, died Tuesday, March 6, 2018 at his home. He was a son of the late Sawyer Messer, Jr. and Martha Warren Messer born to them on June 11, 1945 in Knox County.
He was a retired Coal Truck Driver for J & R Trucking, and enjoyed fishing and four-wheeling, and hanging out with family and friends, and he also enjoyed gardening.
Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister: Geneva Messer, and by his brothers: Reed Messer and Sawyer Messer, Jr.
He is survived by his loving family: His five sisters and one brother: Nancy Mills of Flat Lick; Willie Messer of Burnside, Kentucky; Lois Gambrel of Walker; Helen Perkins of Flat Lick; Barbara Baker of Walker; and Bernice Smith of Barbourville; and by his loving girl friend: Kathy Burnett of Flat Lick; and also by a host of nieces and nephews, and other relatives and dear friends to mourn his passing.
Funeral services for James Albert Messer will be 2:00 P.M. Friday, March 9, 2018 in the Hopper Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Bobby Abner officiating. Burial will follow in the Messer Cemetery at Walker.
Those serving as Pallbearers will be: Johnny Grubb, James Reed Baker, James Reed Baker II, Sawyer Philpot, Mickey Hammons and L. J. Grubb.
Those serving as Honorary Pallbearers will all Friends and Neighbors.
The Messer family will receive friends from 6:00 until 9:00 P.M. on Thursday at the Hopper Funeral Home, and after 9:00 A.M. on Friday and until the funeral hour.
Hopper Funeral Home will be in charge of arrangements.
