Obituary

Joan Kinningham Hampton age 80, of Barbourville, Kentucky residing in Lexington, Kentucky, passed away Wednesday September 12, 2018 at the Blue Grass Hospice Care Center at Saint Joseph Hospital in Lexington.  Joan was born in Knox County, Kentucky on December 8, 1937. She was the daughter of the late Edwin N. and Maude Mills Kinningham.  Joan worked in the Knox County School System for over 30 years as a teacher and food service administrator until she retired in 1995. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Barbourville. On August 2, 1962, she united in marriage to James Harve Hampton and to this union a beloved son was born. Along with her parents, and husband, James Harve, she was preceded in death by a baby brother, Edwin Kinningham.

Joan is survived by her son, Dr. William Edward Hampton (Misheala) of Nicholasville, Kentucky; her dear grandchildren; Seth, Sloane and Catie Grace; her brother; Benjamin Lyon Kinningham of Lawrenceville, Georgia; her nieces; Leslie Ross of Lawrenceville, Georgia; Karen K. Morris of Annapolis, Maryland and Michelle Ports of Charlotte, North Carolina; her nephews; Billy Gabbard of Richmond, Kentucky and Matthew Hampton of Independence, Kentucky; sisters-in-law; Mary Ellen Harrison and husband, David of Charlotte, North Carolina; Glenda Faye Gabbard and husband, Bill of Richmond, Kentucky; brother-in-law; William Jay Hampton and wife, Jayne of Barbourville.

Funeral Services for Joan Kinningham Hampton will be conducted in the Hopper Funeral Home Chapel, Sunday, September 16, 2018 at 1:30 pm with Brother Landon Sexton and Pastor Bill Hughes officiating. Burial will follow in the Barbourville Cemetery with Grandsons, Nephews and Friends serving as pallbearers. Friends will be received at the Hopper Funeral Home Sunday after 12:00 noon until the funeral hour at 1:30 pm. Hopper Funeral Home will be in charge of all arrangements. The Hampton Family have suggested contributions may be made to the Barbourville First United Methodist Church in loving memory of Joan K. Hampton.
