John E. Cheek age 72, of Cannon, was born on February 1, 1943, at
Bailey Switch, Kentucky. He was a son of the late Chester Cheek and
Lizzie Marion Cheek. John died Thursday, February 5, 2015 in the
Knox County Hospital. He was a member of the Pleasant Ridge Baptist Church. On December 17, 1966, he united in marriage to Jo Ann Cheek.
He and his wife, Jo Ann owned and operated the Barbourville Sports
Shop for many years. John was also a brick mason. He was a member
of the Daniel Boone Festival Committee for twenty seven years and
was a member of the I Believe in Santa for twenty five years.
John served in the 1st Battalion 149th Infantry Regiment, Army National Guard.
He is survived by his loving wife, Jo Ann Jackson Cheek of Cannon;
his sisters; Annette McKeehan and husband, T.J. and Gleda Lee Sipe
all of Milford, Ohio; his brother; Earsel (Jim) Cheek and wife,
Phyllis of Hamilton, Ohio and several beloved sisters-in-laws and brothers-in-laws.
Funeral Services for John E. Cheek will be conducted in the Hopper
Funeral Home Chapel, Sunday, February 8, 2015 at 2:00 pm with
Rev. Tommy Frazier and Pat Mills officiating. Burial will follow in the Hutchins Cemetery at Bailey Switch, with Timothy Jackson, Terry Jackson, Christopher Fisher, Donald Ray Cheek, Kenneth Cheek and Kenneth Garland serving as pallbearers. Honorary Pallbearers will be: Scott Fisher,Dr.Chaudry and Staff, Dr. M. Vinjamuri and Staff, Staff at the Baptist Health, Corbin; and Staff at the Knox County Hospital. Friends will be received at the Hopper Funeral Home Sunday after 11:00 am until the funeral hour at 2:00 pm. Hopper Funeral Home will be in charge of all arrangements.
