John G. Detherage age 69, of Bowling Green, Kentucky and formerly of Barbourville, was born on September 29, 1943 in Pineville, Kentucky. He was a son of the late Hazel Marie Rees Detherage Terrell and Green B. Detherage. John died Saturday March 2, 2013 in the Greenview Regional Hospital in Bowling Green. He was a member of the Crestwood Baptist Church and was attending the Living Hope Baptist Church in Bowling Green. He was a college graduate of Eastern Kentucky University in Richmond, Kentucky. John was a District Sales Manager for the Shelter Insurance Company. On December 31, 1965, he united in marriage to Sandra Lynn Daniels and to this union a dear son and daughter were born. Along with his parents and his step-father, Jasper Terrell, he was preceded in death by a brother; Bill S. Detherage, sisters; Lovealee Travis and June Dixon; his sister-in-law; Bernice Detherage and brothers-in-law; Bill Daniels, John Dixon and Matthew Bargo Sr. preceded him in death.
John is survived by his loving wife, Sandra Lynn Detherage of Bowling Green, Kentucky; son, John Kevin Detherage and wife, Rebecca of Barbourville; daughter, April Lynn Groves and husband, John of Bowling Green, Kentucky; grandchildren; Haley Danielle Detherage and John Mark Green Detherage both of Barbourville; mother-in-law, June Daniels of Bimble; brother-in-law, Rodney Daniels of Bimble; his grand dog: Bartley "Roscoe Rick" Groves; sisters; Estelle Gray of Corbin and Gloria Jean Terrell Powell of Lexington, Kentucky; and several beloved nieces and nephews.
Funeral Services for John G. Detherage will be conducted Thursday, March 7, 2013 at 11:00 am in the Hopper Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Shane Nickell and Dickie Cooper officiating. Burial will follow in the Barbourville Cemetery with Dickie Cooper, Rick Girdler, Matthew Bargo Jr., John Groves, Rodney Daniels, and Jim Mike Detherage serving as pallbearers. Honorary Pallbearers will be Dr. David G. Smith, Charles Dixon, Billy Steve Detherage, Byon McWilliams, Jimmy Gatliff, Jim Tye, Pat McDonald John Bill Prichard, Tommy Adkins and the staffs at the Greenview Regional Hospital and Amedisys Home Health Services.
Friends will be received at the Hopper Funeral Home Wednesday after 6:00 pm and Thursday after 10:00 am until the funeral hour at 11:00 am. Members of the Masonic Lodge #187 F&AM will be conducting Masonic Services at 8:00 pm Wednesday evening at the funeral home. Hopper Funeral Home is in charge of all arrangements.
