Rev. John Emery Engel age 78, of Artemus, was born on April 21, 1938
in Winter, Wisconsin. He was a son of the late Harry Engel and Lodessa
Copple Engel. Rev. Engel died Friday, February 24, 2017 at his home.
Rev. Engel was a well known minister having pastored in Knox, Whitley,
Bell and Montgomery Counties. He was also a retired school bus
driver in Knox and Montgomery Counties. Rev. Engel served in the United States Army Reserve. On December 23, 1961, he united in marriage to Wanda Hammons and to this union three beloved
children were born. Along with his parents and wife, Wanda, John
was preceded in death by; a grandson, Brandon Alan Engel; his sister,
Margaret Wright his brother, Harry H. Engel,and sons-in-law; Ernie Lovitt and Freddie Farthing.
Rev. Engel is survived by his daughters; Kathy Lovitt of Richmond, Kentucky; Nora Beth Farthing of Artemus, Kentucky; his son; Tim Engel and wife, Tracie of Williamsburg, Ohio; his grandchildren; Erin Engel Hale and husband, Matt, Erica Engel, Leslie Engel, Jonathan Farthing, and Sarah Farthing; and his great granddaughter; Madilyn Hale.
Funeral Services for Rev. John Emery Engel will be conducted Tuesday,
February 28, 2017 at 12:00 noon in the Hopper Funeral Home Chapel,
with Rev. Rick Partin and David Campbell officiating. Burial will follow in the Hammons Cemetery at Flat Lick, with David Campbell, Jeff Zigos, Jerry Hammons, Verle Wright, Huey Wright, Glen McDonald and Don Carter serving as pallbearers. Honorary Pallbearers will be Johnathan Farthing, David Wright, Hospice employees, Dina, Billie, Donna, Paula and Christine; all employees of the Knox County School Bus Garage. Friends will be received at the Hopper Funeral Home
Monday, 6:00 to 9:00 pm and after 10:00 am Tuesday until the funeral
hour at 12:00 noon. Hopper Funeral Home is in charge of all arrangements.
