John (Johnny) William Farmer, age 61, of Barbourville, passed away peacefully on Friday, July 29, 2016 at the U.K. Medical Center in Lexington, Kentucky. He was born on August 18, 1954 at Gray in Knox County, and was a son of the late Burgess Farmer and Sallie J. Owens Farmer Merida, and the step-son of the late Delmer Reed Merida.
Johnny worked alongside his wife at the Knox County Middle School and was loved by all.
On January 17, 1972, he married his loving and devoted wife Carol, and to this union two daughters: Johnnie Lynn and Kari Ann were born.
He was preceded in death by his father and mother :Burgess Farmer and Sallie J. Owens Farmer Merida; and his step-father: Delmer Reed Merida; by a brother: Delmer Allen Merida:and a sister-in-law: Diana Sue Smith Farmer.
Johnny is survived by his loving wife of over 44 years: Carol Marler Farmer of Barbourville. His two daughters: Johnnie Lynn of Henderson, Kentucky, and Kari Ann of Corbin, Kentucky. His four grandsons in which he thought hung the moon: Corey Mitchell, Shea Miller, Jakob Shelton and Aaron Shelton. His two sisters: Barbara Turner of Gray, Kentucky, and Leda Gray of Walker, Kentucky. His two brothers: Rev. Don Farmer and wife, Sandy, and Burgess Farmer and wife, Paulette both of Gray, Kentucky. Johnny also leaves behind a host of: nieces and nephews, and close friends, beloved friend and son-in-law: Danney Shelton, Mike and Gina Smith of Gray, Kentucky, Larry and Brenda Bryant, Richard and Kristie Bryant of Barbourville, and one special little girl, his great niece, Avery Bryant who always kept her uncle Johnny on his toes. He also leaves behind his Knox County Middle School family.
Funeral Services for John (Johnny) William Farmer will be 11:00 A.M. Wednesday, August 3, 2016 in the Hopper Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Garrett Garland and Rev. Paul Frederick officiating. Burial will follow in the Campbell Cemetery at Gray.
Those serving as Pallbearers will be: Danney Shelton, Jakob Shelton, Aaron Shelton, William Melton, Michael Mitchell and Richard Bryant.
Those serving as Honorary Pallbearers will be: Dear friend Robert Partin, The Staff at Daniel Boone Family Health, and Faculty and Staff at Knox County Middle School.
The Farmer family will receive friends after 6:00 P.M. Tuesday at the Hopper Funeral Home, and after 9:00 A.M. on Wednesday until the hour of service.
Hopper Funeral Home will be in charge of arrangements.
