Obituary

Kathleen Smith Garland, age 84, of Cannon, died Tuesday, November 18, 2014 in the Barbourville Health & Rehabilitation Center in Barbourville.
She was a daughter of the late Sam and Axie (Smith) Smith, born to them on April 8, 1930 in Harlan, Kentucky.

Mrs. Garland was a well known Knox County Homemaker, and a Member of the Sinking Valley Baptist Church at Cannon.

On October 14, 1951, she united in marriage to Emberth Garland, and to this union they raised four sons and five daughters.

Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband: Emberth Garland on March 11, 1985; and one son: Farry Ray Garland; also by her two brothers, and a sister; her two sons-in-law: Richard Kidd and James Fuson; her grandson: Braelyn Garland; and by her great grandson: Tyler Morgan Jones.

She is survived by her loving children: Junior Dean Garland and wife, Mary of Staffordsville, Kentucky; Carl Lynn Garland and wife, Teresa of London; Rondal E. Garland and wife, Anita of Cannon; Lillie A. Fuson and John of Pineville; Shirley Ann Messer and husband, Chester of Barbourville; Farry Jewell Kidd of Frankfort, Kentucky; Connie Sue Chansler and husband, Lee of Barbourville; and Sandra Kay Garland and husband, Lloyd Meeks of Heidrick.
Her brother: Eugene Smith of Indianapolis, Indiana.
Her 20 Grandchildren, 21 Great Grandchildren, and her 2 Great Great Grandchildren; and many other relatives and dear friends to mourn her passing.

Funeral Services for Kathleen Smith Garland will be 2:00 P.M. Friday, November 21, 2014 in the Hopper Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Vernon Morris and Rev. John Fisher officiating.
Burial will follow in the Garland-Jackson Cemetery on Long Branch.
Those serving as Pallbearers will be the Grandsons of Mrs. Garland.
Those serving as Honorary Pallbearers will be the Staff of the Barbourville Health & Rehabilitation Center.

The Garland family will receive friends at the Hopper Funeral Home after 6:00 P.M. on Thursday, and after 9:00 A.M. on Friday until the funeral hour.
