Kenneth M. Boggs age 71, of Barbourville, was born on November 16, 1942 in Pound, Virginia. He was a son of the late Cecil Boggs and Marie Adkins Boggs. Mr. Boggs died, Thursday, November 21, 2013 in the Knox County Hospital.
In 1960, Mr. Boggs graduated from the Pound High School in Virginia. In 1966 he graduated and received his B.S.Degree from Union College. In 1971, he graduated from the University of Kentucky College of Law where he received his J.D. Mr. Boggs started his private practice of law in 1971 in Barbourville. He was a member, served as a Deacon and Board Member of the First Christian Church in Barbourville. From 1991 to the present was Vice Chairman of the Barbourville Board of Education. He served two years as District Chairman for the Upper Cumberland District on the Kentucky School Board Association's Board of Directors.
Mr. Boggs was the City Attorney for the City of Barbourville for over 20 years. He was a member of the Board of Directors for the Knox County Hospital for over 20 years, was a member of the Indian Springs Golf & Country Club and was a former member of the Board of Directors. He was Past Master of Mountain Lodge No. 187, past District Deputy Grand Master for District 30 of the Grand Lodge of Kentucky, Master Ritualist for the Grand Lodge of Kentucky, Past High Priest of Barbourville Chapter Royal Arch Masons, Past Worthy Patron for Barbourville Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star and Past District Deputy Patron for District 7 of the Order of the Eastern Star.Mr. Boggs was the founding member of the "Traveling Golfers". On May 31, 1966, he united in marriage to Sharon Hawn and to this union two dear daughters were born. Mr. Boggs loved golfing, traveling and going to movies with his family, motorcycle riding and picture framing.
He is survived by his wife, Sharon of Barbourville; his daughters; Kami Boggs Gamble and husband, David of Barbourville; Kendra Michelle Boggs of Barbourville; his grandchildren; Ryean Kenneth Gamble and Shaddys Loren Gamble; his sister; Karen Boggs Baker and husband, Joel of Roanoke, Virginia; his brothers; Gary Boggs and wife, Melba Ann of Hurt, Virginia; Eddie Boggs and wife, Betty of Norton, Virginia; a dear sister-in-law, Janet Hyde of Barbourville and many loving nieces and nephews and cousins; his beloved dog, Girl and cat, Lady and his Granddogs, Kira, Gracie and Doogal.
Celebration of Life Service for Kenneth M. Boggs will be conducted in the Hopper Funeral Chapel, Sunday, November 24, 2013 at 3:00 pm with Pastor Darrell Hathcock officiating. Burial will follow in the Barbourville Cemetery with , Ernie Coscia, Ken Jackson, Randy Jewell, David Wayne Miller, Larry Warren and Jim Tye serving as pallbearers. Honorary Pallbearers will be: Knox County Bar Association, City School Board Members, The Many Golfers of the Indian Springs Country Club and the Charter Members of the "Traveling Golfers". The Boggs Family would like to extend a special and heartfelt appreciation to the Barbourville City School Staff. Friends will be received at the Hopper Funeral Home Sunday after 12:00 noon until the funeral hour at 3:00 pm. Mountain Lodge #187 will be conducting Masonic Services at 3:00 pm. Contributions may be made to the First Christian Church in Barbourville in loving memory of Kenneth M. Boggs.
