Obituary

Lee Gilbert Murphy, age 65, of Artemus, died Monday, July 1, 2013 in the Knox County Hospital.
He was the son of the late John and Martha Orick Murphy, born to them on May 2, 1948 at Artemus.

Lee Gilbert worked for the Edward C. Levy Slag Company for over 20 years; He and his wife ran the Murphy's Market at Artemus for over 20 years; and was a School Bus Monitor for the Knox County School System; a Member, Deacon, Sunday School Teacher, and Brotherhood Director at the Artemus First Baptist Church, a Board Member of Farm Bureau, and served his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam War.

On February 19, 1972, he united in marriage to Pat (Charlene) Broughton, and to this union two daughters, Angela and Tanya were born.

He was preceded in death by his father and mother: John and Martha Orick Murphy; his two brothers: Harold Dean Miles and Randall Murphy; his sister: Ora Mae Howard White; and by a nephew: David B. Howard.

Lee Gilbert is survived by his loving family: his loving wife of over 41 years: Pat (Charlene) Broughton Murphy of Artemus.
His two loving daughters: Angela Murphy of Lexington, Kentucky, and Tanya Halcomb and husband, Ralph of Corbin. His very special and loving granddaughter: Raley Halcomb of Corbin. His loving sister: Teresa Carnes and husband, Matthew of Artemus. His loving brother: James Miles and wife, Freda of Artemus. His two loving sisters-in-law: Reva Murphy of Bimble, and Doris Miles of Taylor, Michigan; and several loving nieces and nephews, and other relatives and friends to mourn his passing.

Funeral Services for Lee Gilbert Murphy will be conducted in the Hopper Funeral Home Chapel on Thursday, July 4, 2013 at 1:00 P.M. with Rev. Rick Partin, Rev. Tom Patterson and Rev. Jerry Lowrie officiating. Burial will follow in the Barbourville Cemetery.
Those serving as Pallbearers will be Nephews of Lee Gilbert: Jim Miles, Danny Howard, Brian Murphy, Jeff Carnes, Mike Carnes, Johnny Miles and Andy Miles.
Those serving as Honorary Pallbearers will be: Brent Sowders, Mike Blevins, Neil Watkins, Ruben York, Leroy Nelson, Members and Deacons of Artemus First Baptist Church, and all friends and neighbors of the Murphy family.

Hopper Funeral Home will be in charge of arrangements.

The Murphy family will receive friends at the Hopper Funeral Home after 6:00 P.M. on Wednesday, and after 9:00 A.M. on Thursday until the funeral hour.
