Lewis E. Newman, age 84, of Brandenburg, Kentucky, and formerly of Knox County, died Wednesday, December 14, 2016 at his home. Mr. Newman was retired from Churchill Downs in Louisville, Kentucky. He was a lifetime member of the Laborers International Union Local 576. Mr. Newman had a strong faith in the teachings of the Pentecostal Church.
He was born in Barbourville to the late George and Maultie Mae Lickliter Newman on September 14, 1932. Mr. Newman was preceded in death by a great-grandson, Zachary Nail, and his brothers, Anthony, William, Fred, Raymond, Albert, and Willard Newman.
On May 12, 1951, he united in marriage to Marie Broughton, and to this union five children were born.
Surviving is his wife of over 65 years, Marie Broughton Newman, his children, Janie Patterson of Louisville, KY, Margie Wombles (Glen) of Boston, KY, Harold Newman (Shirley) of Elizabethtown, KY, Linda Jeanette (Fred) of Flaherty, KY, and Larry Newman (Diane) of Shepherdsville, KY, and grandchildren, Mark and Jeff Newman of Elizabethtown, KY, Stephanie Nail of New Haven, KY, Patrick Patterson of Indianapolis, IN, Philip Sullivan of Elizabethtown, KY, Sherry Kight of Indianapolis, IN, and Tyler Jeanette of Flaherty, KY, Matthew Newman, Nicholas Newman, and Carly Newman of Louisville, KY, and great-grandchildren, Bryce Newman, Ashley Cornelius, Mackenzie Nail, Reed Patterson, Landon and William Kight, Conner and Alyson Newman, a brother, Kenneth Newman of Cecilia, KY, and many nieces and nephews, and other relatives, and dear friends to mourn his passing.
Funeral Services for Lewis E. Newman will be 2:00 P.M. Saturday, December 17, 2016 in the Hopper Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Vernon Morris officiating. Burial will follow in the George Newman Cemetery at Noahsville Holler. Those serving as Pallbearers will the Grandsons of Mr. Newman.
The Newman family will receive friends at Hopper Funeral Home on Friday after 5:00 P.M., and on Saturday, after 9:00 A.M. until the hour of service.
Hopper Funeral Home will be in charge of arrangements.
