Linda Jean Townsley Hubbard (1951-2026)
Linda Jean Townsley Hubbard, 75, of Scalf, KY, passed away surrounded by family, on Sunday, October 11, 2026 at the UK Medical Center in Lexington, KY following an illness.
Linda was born in Knox County, KY on January 3, 1951 to Martin Townsley and Mary Edith Daniels Townsley. She was the oldest of three children and naturally fell into a mothering role. Linda later attended Union College in Barbourville, Kentucky and majored in Education to become a teacher. She also completed her Masters in Education and obtained her Rank 1. Linda was an educator in Knox County Schools for over 20 years and touched many lives. She taught everything from kindergarten through 8th grade, but loved teaching middle school the most.
Linda met her "sweetheart", W.B. Hubbard, in 1973, through an introduction from a mutual friend. They were united in marriage on July 13, 1974 at Salt Gum Baptist Church in Scalf, Kentucky. W.B. was the love of Linda's life and she was a devoted and loving wife to him. They were married for over 52 years and took care of one another in sickness and in health. Their love consisted of lots of picking and kidding back and forth between the two of them, and the family could always count on a good laugh when the two of them were on a roll.
While dating, W.B. and Linda attended a revival at Poplar Grove Baptist Church, in Gray, Kentucky. Linda felt the Lord calling her to be saved and she accepted His gift of salvation. Linda spent the rest of her life serving and worshipping her Lord Jesus Christ and was a member of Walker Baptist Church for over 40 years. Linda's voice could often be heard above others as she led the choir in hymns and worship. To the glory of God, one of her greatest blessings was being able to lead her son, Barry, to the Lord in their home when he was just 10 years old. She enjoyed watching WLJC and listening to gospel singing.
Linda and W.B. began their family when their beloved and only child was born. William Barry Hubbard was born on July 22, 1976 and has been their pride and joy. Linda's life revolved around Barry and she was the absolute best mother to him at all ages of his life. They shared a very close bond and she was always reaching out to offer a word of advice, "checking in on her kiddos", and often to give a weather or traffic report. She never failed to mention to "watch for deer" and "let me know when you get home".
Perhaps one of Linda's favorite roles was as a grandmother. Linda treasured her time with her two grandchildren, William Blake Hubbard and Brooklyn Faith Hubbard. If you knew Linda at all, you also knew Blake and Brooklyn. She spoke of them often to anyone who would listen and was so very proud of them. She was fondly referred to as "Mamaw" and cherished and loved by her grandchildren. Blake and Brooklyn spent many summers helping with canning or freezing garden vegetables such as tomatoes, green beans, and corn. She was always cooking their favorite meals and desserts. Some favorite memories at Mamaw's house include making homemade pizzas and having a cooking contest where Mamaw would be the judge. They also enjoyed watching America's Funniest Home Videos together. Mamaw's homemade biscuits will never be replaced. Linda was so excited about her grandson Blake's upcoming wedding in March and welcomed his fiancé Kayla to our family with open arms.
Linda can best be described as a self-less person. Much of what she did over her lifetime was for others. She enjoyed keeping up with family and friends, helping and encouraging others, and to cook for those she loved. She is the definition of a virtuous woman and served in her church for many years. Linda always had an easy smile and will be remembered for her warmth, generosity, and strength.
Linda was preceded in death by her parents, Mary Edith and Martin Townsley of Bimble, KY; her grandparents Reverend Lewis and Nancy Townsley of Hammond, KY; and Joe and Maude Daniels of Bimble, KY. She was also preceded in death by her in-laws, Burrell Hubbard and Joyce Bingham Hubbard; a brother-in-law, Orville Hubbard; a sister-in-law, Bernetta Hammons; a niece, Jennifer Hubbard, a sister-in-law, Beulah Hubbard, a brother-in-law, Duane Baggett; a nephew, Duncan Baggett, and a nephew-in-law Jim Thompson.
Linda is survived by her loving husband, W.B. Hubbard of Scalf, KY; her son, Barry Hubbard and wife Rebecca; and two grandchildren Blake Hubbard and fiancé Kayla; and Brooklyn Hubbard all of London, KY. Also left behind to mourn her passing is her brother Lonnie Townsley and wife Mary of Bimble, KY; sister Judy Mills and husband James of Bimble, KY; brother-in-law Junior Hubbard and wife Pam of Bimble, KY; sister-in-law Molly Hubbard of Oak Ridge, TN; brother-in-law George Hammons and wife Sandra of Barbourville, KY; brother-in-law Clint (Bob) Hubbard and wife Lavon of Artemus, KY; brother-in-law Tom Hubbard and wife Rose of Barbourville, KY; sister-in-law Patty Frost and husband Ken of Barbourville, KY; and sister-in-law Kathy Hubbard of Scalf, KY. Linda is also survived by many other nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends who knew and loved her.
