Obituary

Lloyd Smith, Sr. age 77, of Barbourville, died Wednesday, October 17, 2018 in the Barbourville Health & Rehabilitation Center.  He was a son of the late James Leonard and Bertha Gambrel Smith, born to them on April 15, 1941 at Mills, Kentucky.

Lloyd was a retired Construction Worker;  a well known Fox Hunter; and was of the Baptist Faith.

On June 16, 1962, he united in marriage to Vercie Mills, and to this union five children: Peggy, Patricia, Mona, Lloyd, Jr., and Jeff were born.

Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his two grandbabies: Joshua and Sara Faith; a brother: Wayne Smith; and by his sister: Ruby Pearl Smith.

Lloyd is survived by his loving wife of over 56 years: Vercie Mills Smith of Barbourville.  His five children: Peggy Rankin of Pensacola, Florida; Patricia (Jerry) Smith of Barbourville; Mona (Jimmie) Hibbard of Barbourville; Lloyd (Melissa) Smith, Jr. of Corbin; and Jeff (Arcenia) Smith of Knoxville, Tennessee. His grandchildren: Kimberly (Chris) Gambrel, Kori Smith, Andrew (Holly) Smith, Ashley (Dustin) Hibbard, Richard Allen Smith, Tresa Ann Smith, Matthew Aaron Smith and Jonah Smith.   His great grandchildren: Connor Matlock, Jasmine Vaughn, Rebecca Matlock and Paisley Rae Carpenter.  His sisters: Oma ( Everett) Roark  of London, and Rosa Lee of London. His brother: Fred Smith of Sidney, Ohio; and a host of nieces and nephews, and other relatives and dear friends to mourn his passing.

Funeral Services for Lloyd Smith, Sr. will be 2:00 pm Saturday, October 20, 2018 at the Salem Baptist Church at Mills, Kentucky with Rev. Bud Sizemore and Rev. Donnie Mills officiating.  Burial will follow in the Davis Cemetery at Acorn Fork.

Those serving as Pallbearers will be Grandsons and Nephews.

Those serving as Honorary Pallbearers will be:  The Barbourville Health & Rehabilitation Center Staff and Shannon Rutherford.

The Smith family will receive friends at the Salem Baptist Church on Saturday after 11:00 am, and until the funeral hour.

Hopper Funeral Home will be in charge of arrangements.
