Lorene Abner, 84 of Sampson Lane, Barbourville, died Sunday, October 18, 2015 at The Willows at Citation, in Lexington. Lorene was born February 3, 1931 at Cottongim, Kentucky to the late Joe and Mattie (Vaughn) Cottongim. She was a former manager of the London Store in Barbourville and had worked at Scott's and Tepper's Department Stores in Manchester. She was a member of Antioch Baptist Church in Clay County, enjoyed quilting, crocheting and playing bingo. Lorene was united in marriage to Chester Abner, who preceded her in death, November 13, 1994. Also preceding her in death was a brother, Andrew Cottongim and son-in-law, Charles Hatfield.
Surviving are her children, Wilma Hatfield of Georgetown, Eugene Abner of Barbourville, Ronnie Joe (Yvonne) Abner of Blanchester, OH, Wanda (John) Tye of Barbourville, and Lisa Ellis of Lexington. Grandchildren: Charles Douglas (Hazel) Hatfield, Heather Leigh (Chad) Marshall, Nicholas Eugene (Barb) Abner, Holly Abner, Alyvia Abner, Hana Jean (Jason) Gibson, Jennifer Rose (Jody) Shannon, James Alex Jones, Lauren (Thomas) Hunter. Great-Grandchildren: Emilie Madison Hatfield, Cordelia Elizabeth Hatfield, Kara Abner, Isabella Abner, Sarah Alison Khan, Jocie Roselyn Khan, Thomas Hunter II and six step-great-grandchildren. Sisters and Brothers: Rosetta Asher of Manchester, Fred Cottongim of Lakeland, FL, Troy Cottongim of Brighton, MI, Edward Cottongim of Acworth, GA, Josephine Shoemaker and Drussie Gibbs, both of Manchester.
Funeral Services will be 2:00 pm Thursday, October 22, 2015 at Hopper Funeral Home with Revs. William "Mann" Cobb and Darrell Bargo officiating with burial following in Cottongim Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Doug Hatfield, Chad Marshall, Jason Gibson, Duane Molihan, Alex Jones, Jody Shannon, Thomas Hunter, and Tony Ison. Visitation will be Wednesday from 6 to 9 pm and after 12 pm Thursday.
