Barbourville, Ky. - Mary Wanda Pasternak Hurst, 83, passed away peacefully, Friday, October 11, 2019.  Mary was born in Kay Jay on February 3, 1936 to Houston B. Lee and Lizzie Longmeyer Lee. Mary was a devoted member of the East Barbourville Baptist Church. She loved bluegrass music, gardening and cooking, but her greatest treasure was her family. She loved creating a warm and happy home for them.

Mary was united in marriage to the late Paul L. Harris and to this union three surviving sons were born:  Rex Allen Harris of Knoxville, Tn; Larry Vail Harris (Sherry) of Heidrick and Scott Jay Harris (Florence) of Rockhold, Ky. She was also united in marriage to the late Dick Pasternak and to this union one surviving son, John David Pasternak of Barbourville was born. Later in life, Mary united in marriage to John Hurst, who preceded her in death as well.

Mary's parents preceded her in death along with two sisters: Juanita Bain and Nina Miller and four brothers: Kenneth, Kelly J, Billy Wayne and Melvin Lee.

Mary is survived by two beloved sisters: Merita Lee of Richmond and Linda Lawson of Corbin.  She is also survived by twelve grandchildren and by six great-grandchildren - all who will miss her dearly.

The Funeral Service for Mary Pasternak Hurst will be held at the Hopper Funeral Home Chapel on Sunday, October 13, at 1:30 p.m. with the Reverend Josh Smith officiating and music provided by the Bluegrass Friends. Visitation will be held Sunday from 11:00 a.m. until the time of service. Internment will be  Monday, October 14, at 1:00 p.m. in the Chenoa - Robert Boyd Lee Cemetery in Bell County.  Family and friends may gather at Hopper Funeral Home at 11: 45 a.m. to travel in procession to the cemetery.  Pallbearers are her grandchildren: Matthew Harris, Daniel Harris, Derek Harris, Dr. Kelli Mathew, Chloe Beth Harris, Wendy Rivchin, Jordy Harris, Corey Harris, John Richard Pasternak, Wyatt Pasternak, Alexander Pasternak, and Skyler Pasternak.  Honorary Pallbearers will be staff members of the Barbourville Health and Rehabilitation Center.
