Mary Ethel Powell Hemphill, age 76, of the Paint Hill Community, died Sunday, July 23, 2017 at her home. She was a daughter of the late Leslie "Doc" Powell and Lorena Walters Powell, born to them on August 10, 1940 in Knox County.
Mrs. Hemphill was a loving Care Giver, a member of Indian Creek Baptist Church, and a loving homemaker.
Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her infant son: Oscar Lefel Engle.
On May 23, 1992, she united in marriage to Rufus Hemphill.
She is survived by her loving family: Her husband: Rufus Hemphill of the Paint Hill Community. Her three children: Billy Engle and wife, Mary of Woodbine; Sherrie Grant and husband, Rick and Sandra Mills and husband, Mark both of the Paint Hill Community. Her three grandsons: Jason Engle and wife, Ashley; Ryan Mills and Fiancee' Lori Gambrel; and Tyler Mills all of the Paint Hill Community. Her two granddaughters: Amy Grant and Ashley Grant of the Paint Hill Community. Her great grandchildren: Jacob Engle, Emily Brown, Brady Engle, and Riley Mills. Her Brother: Roy Powell and wife, Fredia of the Paint Hill Community. Her sister: Mable Monroe of Corbin; and many nieces and nephews, and other relatives and dear friends to mourn her passing.
Funeral Services for Mary Ethel Powell Hemphill will be 12:00 noon Thursday, July 27, 2017 in the Hopper Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Jim Elliott officiating.
Burial will follow in the Brock Cemetery on Walker Park Road.
Those serving as Pallbearers will be: Mark Mills, Ryan Mills, Tyler Mills, Jason Engle, Jacob Engle and Jathan Powell.
Those serving as Honorary Pallbearers will be the Knox County Home Health Staff.
The Hemphill family will receive friends on Wednesday after 6:00 P.M. at the Hopper Funeral Home, and on Thursday after 9:00 A.M. and until the funeral hour.
Hopper Funeral Home will be in charge of arrangements.
