Mary Louise Pursiful-Petrey, was born in Pineville Kentucky on January 11. 1964 to Margaret and Charles Pursiful. She was called home to our Heavenly Father on Wednesday, February 20,2013.
She dedicated her life to our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ at an early age and was a member of the Saint Paul Baptist Church.
She was married to Sergeant First Class Morice Petrey. She was preceded in death by her husband, her dear mother (Margaret) , Brother (Brian Edward) and Grand-Mother (Mary Ester Cloud).
Mary Lou was a graduate of Knox Central High School and Union College where she received her Masters Degree in Psychology and Sociology.
She was employed by Hazard and Harlan County Appalachian Regional Hospital, Eastern State Medical Hospital and was one of the sole creators of the Black Mountain Improvement Association (BMIA). Her love and compassion for helping others was apparent throughout her life.
Her affiliations include the former Excelsior Chapter #33 order of the Eastern Stars of Barbourville. Chairman of BMIA, Alumni of the class of 1982 of Knox Central High School and Union College.
Precious memories will forever live in the heart of her beautiful daughter Jona Michaela Pursiful; her father Charles (Debby) Pursiful of Tacoma Washington; loving Grandmother, Lueverda Boose of Barburville; a brother, Noah (Cherish) Sholtz and nephew Deshawn Sholtz of Tacoma, Washington. Great Aunts and Uncles, Joann Mays (Mamma Jo), Lela Potter, Amos (Barbara) Gregory, Rose Cloud and Walter Cloud; Uncles, Raymond (Harriette) Cloud, and Anthony (Boo) Cloud. Aunts, Tenna, Mary Edna and Etta Cloud. A special friend, Dennis Jackson.
Special cousins, Kenneth Ray (Ruth Ann) Williams; Ann Hopkins, Tammy Rogers, Kelli Mays; Lifelong friends Teresa Mills, and Sherry Tinsley along with a host of many dear cousins, other relatives close friends.
Funeral Services for Mary Lou Pursiful Petrey will be conducted on Monday, February 25, 2013 at 1:00 P.M. in the Hopper Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Charles Tinsley, Rev. T. A. Simmons and Rev. Andrew Baskin officiating.
Burial will follow in the Rosenwald Cemetery in Barbourville.
Those serving as Pallbearers will be: Armani Wardlaw, Bob Dunaway, Johnathan Pryor, Chaz Martin, Tony Bledsoe and Charlie Green Dixon.
Those serving as Honorary Pallbearers will be: Physicans and Associates of Irene & Howard H. Baker Cancer Treatment Center of Harrogate, Tennessee; Tennova Healthcare of Knoxville, Tennessee, and Dr. Vora of Barbourville, Kentucky.
Hopper Funeral Home will be in charge of arrangements.
The family of Mary Lou Pursiful Petrey will receive friends at the Hopper Funeral Home after 11:00 A.M. Monday until the funeral hour of 1:00 P.M.
