Obituary

Mary Ruth Hammons, age 90, passed away at her home on Wednesday, December 19, 2018. She was born on November 4, 1928 in Crane's Nest, KY, the daughter of the late Hayes Helton and Ortie Parsons Helton. In 1947, she was united in marriage with Edward Hammons, Jr. and to this union three children were born. She was a housewife and a long time member of East Barbourville Baptist Church. She loved to Paint, Read, Cook, Crochet and loved spending time with her dear family.

She was preceded in death by her husband, parents and her son, Rick L. Hammons. She was also preceded in death by four brothers, Jerome Helton, Virgil "Jack" Helton, Berchin Helton, and Homer Helton; and three sisters, Cleo Helton Zabinko, Elsie Helton Cook, and Ruby Helton Wall.

She is survived by her daughters Glenda Hammons Redmond of Pineville, KY and Paula Jean Hammons Allen of Barbourville, KY, and her daughter-in-law Eryleen Bingham Hammons of Bimble, KY. Her grandchildren are Don Hayes Hammons and wife Andrea of Turkey Creek KY, Jaxon Hammons and wife Wendi of Turkey Creek, KY, Rheagan Redmond-Young and husband Matthew of Wise,Virginia; Dustin Redmond of Pineville, KY; Kendall Allen Scherr and husband David, of Alexandria Virginia, and Kelly Allen of Barbourville, KY. She is survived by two great-grandsons, Evan Hayes Hammons and Drew Thomas Hammons, and one great-granddaughter, Riley Marlene Scherr. She is also survived by a host of loving nieces, nephews, and friends to mourn her passing.

In honor of Mary Ruth's wishes, family will receive visitors at Hopper Funeral Home on Friday, December 21, 2018 from 6:00-9:00pm. All friends are welcome to attend the graveside service and burial on Saturday, December 22, 2018 at 3:00pm at the New Bethel  Cemetery with Rev. Josh Smith officiating. Serving as Pallbearers will be Steve Farmer, Terry Messer, Steve Brock, Roger Brooks, David Faulkner and Mark Moran. Honorary Pallbearers are her close family, friends, Deacons and Trustee's of East Barbourville Baptist Church. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the East Barbourville Baptist Church building fund.
