Michael Charles Amis age 59, of Barbourville passed away Thursday night at the Barbourville ARH. Born in Pineville Hospital to Charles Benjamin Amis and Mary Ruth Amis. he attended Boone Elementary and Knox Central, and played basketball for both schools. In 1977 he married Karen Smith (neé Medlock), and moved to Cincinnati for 11 years. He worked his way up there working for American Metal and eventually was trained and licensed as a long haul truck driver. He worked in this profession on and off while caring for his two sons.

Michael was often a kind and giving soul, and worked hard to provide for his family and support those near to him as much as possible. We remember him for this, as well as the common sense practically that he so often observed and hammered into his children. His quirky humor and endless storytelling will be forever cherished among those who loved him.

Michael is preceded in death by his father in (2004) and is survived by his two sons Benjamin Amis of Rome Georgia and Ian Amis of Barbourville; his mother Mary Ruth Vermilion Amis of Lexington; sisters Clara Herrell of Lexington , Dianne Thomas of Montana and Beth Amis of Richmond. Graveside services and burial have been changed to 10 am Tuesday at the Amis Cemetery at Flat Lick due to high water.
