Barbourville, Ky. - Michael Randy "Pooh" Rose, of Lexington, Kencuticly, was affectionately known throughout much of his life as "Pooh," passed away October 2, 2026. He was 64 years old.
The nickname "Pooh" began in childhood, inspired by the beloved Winnie-the-Pooh stories, and simply stayed with him. Over the years, it became much more than a childhood nickname. To generations of family and friends, he was simply Pooh-a name spoken with familiarity, affection, and love. For many who knew him best, calling him Randy almost seemed too formal. He was Pooh.
Randy was the son of the late Charles Curtis Rose and Stella Mae West Rose. He was also preceded in death by his brothers, Charles "Charlie" Rose and Johnny Rose, and by his infant grandson, Elijah Rose.
Randy spent more than 40 years working as a carpenter, a trade that reflected his ability to work with his hands and his appreciation for doing things well. Away from work, he was an avid hunter, sportsman, and outdoorsman. He also had a longtime interest in aviation.
Randy is survived by his daughters, Nicole Michelle Rose and Kelly Ann Rose; his grandchildren; and his sister, Carole Jayne O'Donnell, his only surviving sibling and only living next of kin. He is also survived by his sister-in-law, Janie Rose; his trusted nephew, Steven Jason Rose; and many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends who knew and loved him as Randy, Uncle Randy, or simply Pooh.
Those closet to Randy will remember not only the things he did during his life, but the place he occupied in their lives. His passing leaves behind memories accumulated over decades-of family, friendship, work, the outdoors, and the countless ordinary moments that ultimately make up a life.
