Mike Payne, age 64, of Heidrick, died Thursday, November 28, 2013 in the University of Kentucky Medical Center in Lexington, Kentucky.
He was a son of the late Arnold and Margaret Belle Goodin Payne, born to them on September 13, 1949 at Bimble.

Mike was a well known Bank President and CEO, having worked in banking from 1977 until 1993; and was a member of the East Barbourville Baptist Church.

On October 11, 1969, he united in marriage to Sheila Swafford, and to this union two sons: Michael Steven and Kevin Scott were born.

Mike was preceded in death by his parents: Arnold and Margaret Belle Goodin Payne; his brother: Kenneth Lee Payne; a nephew: Kenneth Arnold Payne; his father-in-law and mother-in-law: Charles and Loretta Swafford; and by a brother-in-law: Bev Ray Alford.

Mike is survived by his wife of 42 years: Sheila Swafford Payne.
His three sons: Michael Steven Payne of Louisville; Kevin Scott Payne and wife, Angela Katherine and their children: Madison Parker Payne, Taylor Page Payne and Hayden Michael Scott Payne all of Heidrick; and his nephew whom he loved as a son: Chad Derrick Delpont and wife, Catherine and their children: Tucker Thomas Delpont and Grady Payne Delpont all of Spring Hill, Tennessee.
His sister: Geraldine Payne Smallwoood and husband, Don R. Smallwood of Lexington.
His brother: Rev. John Payne and wife, Sherry of Bimble.
His sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law: Jeannie Payne of Bimble; Linda Alford of Barbourville; Ronnie Swafford and wife, Joann of Delaware; Mary Katherine Deaton and husband, Ronnie of Heidrick; Beverly Swafford of Williamsburg; Bill Swafford and wife, Michele of Barbourville; and Margaret Pridemore and husband, Dwight of Heidrick; and a host of nieces and nephews, and other relatives and dear friends to mourn his passing.


Funeral Services for Mike Payne will be 2:00 P.M. Sunday, December 1, 2013 in the Hopper Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. James Vandy and Rev. Josh Smith officiating.
Burial will follow in the Barbourville Cemetery.
Those serving as Pallbearers will be: Don Smallwood, Jr., Patrick Alford, Keith Hensley, Todd Pridemore, Tim Hammons and Bryan Erslan.
Those serving as Honorary Pallbearers will be: The Hensley and Goodin Families.

The Payne family will receive friends after 5:00 P.M. on Saturday at the funeral home, and on Sunday after 12:00 noon until the funeral hour.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association, or the Cancer Society in loving memory of Mike Payne.

Hopper Funeral Home will be in charge of arrangements.
