Obituary

Opal Smith Kinningham age 89, of Walker passed away Tuesday at Baptist Health Care, Corbin. She was the widow of the late John Kinningham and a daughter of the late Chris Smith and Post Mills Smith born to them on September 9, 1929 in Scalf, KY. She was the oldest living member of Walker Baptist Church and was very active in church having served as Church Clerk and a Sunday School teacher through the years. She was a retired teacher for the Knox County School System having taught for Forty Six years and a member of the KEA. She is a graduate of Union College with a Masters Degree in Elementary Education. She had a life long passion for reading and encouraging other to read, she also loved her flowers and Bible study.

Besides her parents and husband she was preceded in death by her son: John Duane Kinningham, her brother: George R. Smith and her sister: Martha Yvonne DeCelle.

She is survived by her grandchildren: John Christopher Kinningham of Walker, Christina Sowders of Georgetown, KY and Jessica Pope of Barbourville, her brothers: Daniel Boone Smith and wife Kay of Boone Height and Kenneth Smith of Inkster, Michigan, her great grandchildren: Lillie Claire Kinningham, William Joseph Kinningham, Bella Jane Kinningham, Bradley Trent, Chase Trent, Dylan Trent, Madison Trent, Reese Sowders and John William Riley Sowders and a special friend Linda Hubbard. She is also survived by many special nephews and nieces including Vickie Smith Zimnicki and many dear cousins, relatives and friends to mourn her passing.

Funeral services for Opal Smith Kinningham will be conducted in the Hopper Funeral home Chapel, Saturday, September 29, 2018 at 2:00 P.M. with Rev. Kenneth Smith and Rev. Kenneth Merida officiating. Burial will follow in The Barbourville Cemetery with family and friends serving as pallbearers. Honorary Pallbearers will be W.B. Hubbard, Billy Joe Bingham and Knox County Home Health Care. The family will receive friends after 11:00 A.M. Saturday until the hour of service at Hopper Funeral Home.
