Barbourville, Kentucky – Phillis Ruth Smith , 75, of Bailey Switch, Kentucky, passed away November 25, 2023.  Phillis was the daughter of Felix Johnson and Mayme Jackson Johnson, born to them December 11, 1947, in Knox County, Kentucky.

Phillis was a kind woman with an unwavering love for her family.  She fiercely loved her only son Otis and there wasn't anything she wouldn't have done for him.  She was a Christian of the Baptist faith and a gifted homemaker and gardener.  More than anything else, Phillis enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her grandbabies Megan and Madison.  She also liked crocheting, bluebirds, and cooking – she was known for her delicious dumplings. Phillis will be remembered fondly by all who knew and loved her.

Left behind to mourn her passing is her beloved husband Otis William Smith, son Otis William Smith, Jr. and his wife Jennifer, brothers Felix Ray Johnson (Debbie) and Charles (Douglas) Doug Johnson, sisters Mary Joyce Hammons (Marvin), Betty Jean Centers, and Ruby Ann Begley and brother-in-law Oscar Shelton.  Two cherished granddaughters, Megan Smith, and Madison Smith, also survive Phillis and will miss her dearly.  In addition to her parents, Felix and Mayme Johnson, Phillis was preceded in death by sisters Georgia Johnson, Shirley Sue Bargo, and Janet Faye Shelton and brothers-in-law Jack Centers and Paul Begley.

A private graveside service is planned for Phillis on Monday, November 27, 2023, 11:00 AM, at Johnson Cemetery, Bailey Switch, Kentucky.  Reverend Vernon Morris will officiate.  Pallbearers are David Smith, Dale Smith, Richard Edwards, Steven Broughton, Harlan Taylor, and Jeffery Ketchum.
