Reed Messer, 67, of Walker, died Monday at Barbourville ARH. Reed was born June 19, 1948 in Walker, to the late Sawyer Messer Sr. and Martha Warren Messer. He was of the Baptist faith, loved to mow his grass, gardening, fishing, and playing with his grandchildren. He and his brother ran J&R Trucking.

In addition to his parents, Reed was preceded in death by a brother, Sawyer Messer Jr., sisters, Geneva, and Sally Messer, grand daughters, Jessica and Jamie McCulley, and a grandson, Jeffrey Reed Davenport.

Surviving is
his wife, Judy Messer, sons, Sawyer Philpot of DeWitt, Mikey Philpot of Harlan, Chris and Michael McQueen of Barbourville, daughters, Vonda K. Gregory and fiancée Mickey Hammons of Walker, Gale Marie Baker and companion, Tom Hubbs, Kristal McCulley and fiancée Nelson Bailey, all of Walker, and Jennifer Clime of Somerset, seven grandchildren four great-great grandchildren, brothers, Willie and wife, Ola Messer of Somerset,James Albert Messer of Acorn Fork, sisters, Nancy Mills of Flat Lick, Lois Gambrel of Walker, Bernice Smith of Heidrick, Barbara Baker of Walker, and Helen Parkins of Acorn Fork.

Funeral services will be 2:00 pm Saturday, June 11, 2016 at Hopper Funeral Home Chapel with Revs. A.Y. Mills and Bobby Abner officiating. Burial will follow in the Messer Cemetery at Walker.

Friends will be received Thursday from 6 to 9 pm, Friday from 12 to 9 pm, and Saturday before the services at Hopper Funeral Home.
