Mr. Rodger Augustus Jackson, born December 27th, 1934, passed away Thursday September 25th at the Continue Care Long Term Acute Care Facility in Corbin, Ky. He was 79 years old at the time of his passing.
Rodger attended elementary school at Cannon, Ky and later attended Knox Central High School where he received his diploma. After leaving Knox Central, he joined the United States Air Force on April 9th, 1954. He served as an aircraft mechanic on the F100 fighter jets in Amarillo, TX and Nellis Air Force Base near Las Vegas, Nevada. His time served at Nellis Air Base was during the time of the Manhattan Project and the nuclear testing associated with that initiative. Many times he talked about seeing the nuclear clouds come over the base, about the dosimeters they had to wear, and having to go inside until the dangers had passed. During his service he received the National Defense Service Medal and the Good Conduct Medal. He served honorably for nearly 4 years and received his discharge on November 19th, 1957 at the rank of A1C (Airman 1st Class).
Upon his return to Kentucky, Rodger was married to Betty Jean Grubb of Stinking Creek on August 5th, 1960. To this union, two children were born:
-Mr. Roger David Jackson and Mrs. Donna Carol Jackson
Rodger was later married to Ada Lee Bruner of Girdler, Ky and to this union, two children were born:
-Mr. Randall Dewayne Jackson and Mrs. Sarah Jackson
Mr. Jackson was preceded in death by his parents Leona Yeager Jackson and Earnest Jackson of Cannon, KY. Four sisters: Mattie Marion of Cannon, KY, Elsie Lynch of Louisville, KY, Nellie Parrott of Louisville, KY, and Georgia Jackson of Cannon, KY. Four Brothers: Guy Douglas Jackson of Cannon, KY, Ruy Jackson of Blackstar, KY, Jack David Jackson of Cannon, KY, and Charles Jackson of Cannon, KY.
Rodger leaves behind 4 children: Roger David Jackson and wife Amy, Donna Carol Napier and husband Freddy, Randall Dewayne Jackson and Sarah Jackson
2 Grandchildren: Christopher David Jackson and Tyler Napier
Along with a host of other relatives and friends to not only mourn his passing, but to celebrate his life and his glorious reunion in heaven.
Funeral Services for Rodger Jackson will 11:00 A.M. Wednesday, October 1, 2014 in the Hopper Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. John Fisher and Rev. Ray Napier officiating.
Burial will follow in the Jones-Hurst Cemetery at Cannon Lake.
Those serving as Pallbearers will be Chris Jackson and the Sinking Valley Baptist Church Deacons.
Those serving as Honorary Pallbeares will be: The Men's Sunday School Class, Mark Jackson, Doug Jackson and Tyler Napier.
The Jackson family will receive friends at the Hopper Funeral Home after 6:00 P.M. on Tuesday, and after 9:00 A.M. on Wednesday until the funeral hour.
Hopper Funeral Home will be in charge of arrangements.
