Obituary

Russell Lowell Messer, age 75, of Corbin, surrounded by his loving family, passed away to his heavenly home on Saturday, November 9, 2013. He was the son of Daisy Walton Messer and the late Arthur Messer, born to them on April 15, 1938, in Artemus, Kentucky.

Dancing was his favorite hobby which he passionately pursued.
He belonged to several dance clubs and in past years served as an officer. He enjoyed working in the flowers and vegetable gardens while sharing the produce with his neighbors and keeping a well manicured lawn. He enjoyed the computer and his i-phone and was always willing to share his skills.

He was an active member of Central Baptist Church and served as a trustee and a member of the Lowell Cornelius Sunday School Class. He joined in Mission Work Projects with Kentucky Baptist and his local church.

He graduated from Knox Central and attended the University of South Florida. He retired from Sears & Roebuck in Allen Park, Michigan; then pursued his dream of owning and operating a hardware store, True Value of Corbin. He was truly a people person.

He was a proud member of the Detroit area Philanthropic groups, the Jaycees and Free Masons, where he achieved the esteemed level of 32nd degree Mason. In past years he was an active member of the Corbin Lions Club.

He is survived by: his wife, Judy Thomas Kindoll Messer; his mother, Daisy Messer; his three sons and families: Marvin Dwayne and Elizabeth Messer, Eugene Brett Messer and Arwyn Holmes, and Arthur Jerrell Messer; his step-children: David Wade Thomas (Tammy); and Amanda Kindoll Barton (Bryan). His life was greatly enriched with grand-children and great grand-children. He is also survived by his brothers & families: Randall Wayne (Pete) Messer (Billie), J. Harold Messer (Peggy), Norman Van Messer (Shirley); his sister, Sonja Freeman; and many nieces and nephews, aunts and uncles, cousins, and a host of other relatives and friends who will greatly miss him.

He was preceded in death by: his father, Arthur Messer; and his oldest son, Rickie Edward Messer.

Funeral Services for Russell Lowell Messer will be 2:30 P.M. Monday, November 11, 2013, in the Hopper Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Chad Fugitt, Rev. James Vandy, and Rev. Ron Green officiating. Burial will follow in the Farley Cemetery at Himyar.
Those serving as Pallbearers will be Grand-children and a Nephew.
Those serving as Honorary Pallbearers will be the Lowell Cornelius Sunday School Class of Central Baptist Church.

The Messer family will receive friends at the Hopper Funeral Home after 10:30 A.M. Monday until the funeral hour.
