Russell Smith, age 67, of the Jarvis Community of Barbourville, passed away Tuesday, February 5, 2019 at Baptist Health in Lexington, Kentucky. He was a son of the late Jeff and Annie (Smallwood) Smith, born to them on July 2, 1951 in Pineville, Kentucky.

He was a well known Knox County Farmer and Construction Worker, a Member of the New Bethel Baptist Church, and served his Country in the United States Army.

On March 9, 1968, he united in marriage to Patty Parker and to this union three children: Darrell, Sherri and Missy were born.

Along  with his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter: Missy D. (Smith) Jones, a sister: Myrtle Smith, and by three brothers: Art Smith, Ronnie Smith and Donald Smith,  a sister-in-law: Carrie Jean Smith, and a brother-in-law: Jerry Wayne Smith.

Russell is survived by his loving family: His loving wife of over 50 years: Patty Parker Smith of Barbourville.  His son: Darrell Smith and Rhonda of Bowling Green, Kentucky; and Janie Smith of Chattanooga, Tennessee.  His daughter: Sherri Chadwell and husband, Carl of Girdler.

His grandchildren: Stephanie Smith, Kelsey Winiecki and husband, Kevin, Cody Smith, Braxton Chadwell, Daniel Chadwell and wife, Tiffany, Sasha Jackson, Whitney Schmitt and husband, Tyson, and a very special friend: Brad Rose.

His brothers and sisters: Vernon Smith, Jr. and wife, Joyce of Laurel County, Earl Smith and wife, Eve of Jarvis,  Gilbert Smith and wife, Darlene of Jarvis,  Glen Smith of Barbourville, Sophie Kwasniski of Corbin, Shirley Hunter and husband, Roger of California, and Bobbie Smith of Jarvis; and a host of nieces and nephews, and other relatives and dear friends to mourn his passing.

Funeral Services for Russell Smith will be 2:00 pm Saturday, February 9, 2019 in the Hopper Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Dennis Chesnut officiating.  Burial will follow in the Mount Olivet Cemetery.

Those serving as Pallbearers will be Grandsons and a Special Friend: Cody Smith, Braxton Chadwell, Daniel Chadwell, Kevin Winiecki and Greg Duncan, and a Special Friend: Brad Rose.

Those serving as Honorary Pallbearers will be the Nephews of Russell.

The Smith family will receive friends at the Hopper Funeral Home after 6:00 pm Friday, and on Saturday after 11:00 am and until the hour of  service.

Hopper Funeral Home will be in charge of arrangements.
