Flat Lick

Obituary

Barbourville, Ky. – Sudie Mae Trent , 87, of Flat Lick, passed away February 23, 2021.  Sudie was the daughter of Ester Mills and Toleman Mills, joyfully born to them on August 13, 1933 in Mills Creek, Kentucky.

Sudie attended Knox Central High School. She lived most of her adult life in Warren Michigan, relocating there with her husband Carson, who migrated north to find employment. Sudie enjoyed her time in Michigan. She worked for the Helm Bindery, in Detroit, as a supervisor for 30 years.

Sudie will forever be remembered for her playful and adventurous spirit.  She liked to have fun and was known to be a bit of a prankster.  Especially in her younger years, Sudie loved playing bingo, playing cards, and attending the horse races.  However, sightseeing was the hobby about which Sudie was most passionate.  She and Carson were ever ready to hop in their car and drive around to explore whatever community or area where they happened to find themselves. Sudie especially delighted in exploring the mountains of Eastern Kentucky, seeming to appreciate them more, after having lived most of her adult life in away from Appalachia. Besides exploring the countryside, another of Sudie's passions was caring for animals, especially dogs. She would adopt any furry friend that was in need of love or a home.

In addition to her parents, Ester and Toleman Mills, Sudie was preceded in death by her beloved husband Carson Trent, a brother, Hershel Mills, a great-nephew Adam Stevens and her niece Shirley's husband, Dwight Fry.

Left behind to celebrate Sudie's life are her dear nieces Sandra Stevens (William), Shirley Fry, and Brenda Faye as well as great nieces and nephews, April Carmen (Jason), Rebecca Fry, Jacob Fry, Aaron Stevens, Brandi Baxter, and Derek Baxter, and great-great nieces and nephews Elizabeth Stevens McCreary (Jacob), Mason Stevens, Noah Stevens, Skylar Baxter, and Rowan Baxter.  As well, an additional, expected, great-great nephew is due in May.

A private burial was held for Sudie on Thursday, February 25, 2021, at the Obie Mills Cemetery in Mills Creek on Stinking Creek.  Casket Bearers were Jacob Fry, Jacob McCreary, Mason Stevens, Ferlin Bargo, Bill Stevens and Aaron Stevens.

In lieu of flowers, the family has asked that donations be made, in Sudie Trent's memory, to the Knox - Whitley Animal Shelter.  This kind gesture would be greatly appreciated by the family and would be a lovely tribute to Sudie.
