Virgil Smith, age 80, of Corbin, died Friday,  April 20, 2018 at his home.  He was a son of the late Larkin and Monotia Smith, born to them on August 24, 1937 in Knox County.

He retired from General Motors, and was a member of  almost 50 years of the City of the Straits Masonic Lodge # 452 F. & A. M. in Detroit, Michigan.  On March 2, 2018, in his hospital room Virgil accepted the Lord Jesus and was Saved.

On August 15, 1957, he united in marriage to Anna Jane Smith, and to this union three children: Deborah, Donna and Dorman Dean were born.

Along with his Parents, he was preceded in death by his loving Wife of over 48 years: Anna Jane Smith on November 13, 2005; his Son: Dorman Dean Smith on December 21, 2017;  his Great-Grandson: Landen Vaughn; his Brother: Arvil Smith; and by his Father-in-law and Mother-in-law: Clarence and Nannie Senters Smith.

Virgil is survived by his loving family: His two daughters: Deborah Vaughn and husband, McKinley of Woollum, and Donna Smith and husband, Ed of Bimble.  His daughter-in-law: Sue Smith of Detroit, Michigan.  His Twelve Grandchildren and Twenty-one Great Grandchildren.  His sister: Betty Sue Mills of Corbin, and a host of Nieces and Nephews.  His two special Caregivers: Chasity Collins and Debbie Hubbard both of Barbourville; and many other relatives, and dear friends to mourn his passing.

Funeral Services for Virgil Smith will be 1:00 pm Monday, April 23, 2018 in the Hopper Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. R. P. Edwards officiating.  Burial will follow in the Calvin Jordan Cemetery on Hammons Fork in Knox County.

Those serving as Pallbearers and Honorary Pallbearers will be the Grandsons of Mr. Smith.

The Smith family will receive friends at the Hopper Funeral Home after 4:00 pm on Sunday, and on Monday after 9:00 am and until the hour of the service.

There will be a Masonic Service at 8:00 pm  on Sunday at the Funeral Home conducted by the Mountain Masonic Lodge #187 F. & A. M.  of Barbourville.

Hopper Funeral Home will be in charge of arrangements.
